Hello,

I'm off to Vilnius tomorrow and shall spend about two weeks in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Besides the excitement, I wonder, in case my ten rolls of TRIX run out, whether I can get films in any of the major cities : Vilnius, Riga, Tallinn etc.

I'm also bringing lots of clothes as well as an M2 to resist the cold weather.

Also, is this a good idea to visit Klaipeda and some coast cities at this moment of the year ?

Any clue is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The coastal areas around the Gulf of Finland shouldn't be that cold in winter, as opposed to say Norway for example. Haven't been to the Baltics but I remember Stockholm wasn't that cold.

Klaipeda and e.g. Parnu in Estonia and Juramala near Riga have beaches which obviously now are frozen, but IMO can still offer nice photo opportunities. would not rule them out, especially if not traveling in hurry.

Thanks for the feedback !

The thing is I don't have many winter clothes, as in Paris, temperatures rarely fall below 0°C in winter. I hope the difference (up to -7°C) won't be that much of a deal. Last time in Norway, I did show some Norwagians that I stand quite well the coldness but it was in April (and in Bergen, so not that north at all). I look forward to seeing frozen beaches because I don't think I have seen any yet.

Any information on photo stores (film supply and development) would be greatly appreciated. Without any film I would feel naked.

Guess you are in luck. I can give you info about Estonia. Worked 5 years in a camera store/photo lab.

So there are two major store chains. Photopoint and Fotoluks. Both have many stores in Tallinn. You can find stores also in Tartu and Pärnu.

Check out their websites.
Click here for Photopoint and here for Fotoluks.

In general I would say Fotoluks is better stocked. In Tallinn downtown there are two stores, both in shopping centers, in Viru Center and in Solaris. The distance between the two is about 500 meters. There is no Photopoint in the center, closest would be in Kristiine or Ülemiste.

If you have any other questions. Shoot :)

Thanks Joosep ! I have written down the names. Photopoint carries even Delta 3200 which is great news for me. I shall certainly make a stopover in Tallinn before going back to take my flight in Vilnius. I also took a look at your website (nice pictures !) and am glad I won't be having trouble to find alchohol in the city like in Bergen where, for the first time in my life, I had to suffer alkoolfrei stuff (the beauty of the city makes up for it though).
