Had an odd experience this week - shooting a factory roll of Mitsubishi color (must be an omen, I should stick to B&W) and had a sensation almost like sprocket tearout ... rewound the film, it seemed quite short. Opened the back to find most of the roll on the take-up spool. After darkroom retrieval and opening the cassette it turns out the film tore apart perpendicular to the length with maybe 4 or 5 frames still to go. I have had bulk loaded film become untaped at the spool, but never this. Has anyone else ever experienced such tearing?

I had it happen once, about 30 years ago, with a roll of Eastman 5247 (don't laugh; I was 11). I was shooting it in a scale-focus viewfinder camera that may not have had the world's best winding mechanism, but I've never had it happen again.

I've seen that happening before, it was a friend's Contax RTS with a chinese-made Lucky SHD100, which was very well known to be a thin neg. I don't think your Mitsubishi falls into this category..
