There is a product that has been out for sometime called Filterview which consists of a 77mm filter ring and a series of filter ring adapters sized for your particular lens that permits the camera viewer to see the actual effects of the rotating polarizer while the filter is on the camera through the viewfinder. It seems to be a very simple concept if it works effectively. It sems to me that the filter placed out in the open without it's own sunshade might be susceptible to veiling flare.
