Thanks again for the good advice.

It was a close fight between:
* Canon 7 at $90
* Canon III Screw Mount at $84
* A IIIc at $150
* a M2 at 435 on ebay
or the CL with the inoperative meter

I finally broke down and placed an order for the CL for $225. I should have it in my grubby hands sometime next week.

One last question, I presume the usual m39 to bayonet mount adapters would apply for the CL ? (35-135, 50-75 etc) ?

thanks

ps. I took this picture 2 weeks ago in BKK with my FED-2 and Industar-26m. Pictured are my workmates, we were at a road-side eatery at 9am in the morning (don't ask what we ate :) )
Hope the picture doesn't blow up too big...

Congratulations. I think you will like the CL. I have never owned one but they are well liked here at RFF. Your Russian lens could adapt onto the CL but perhaps a Cosina 40mm would be better. Good Luck. Joe

I used to have a CL and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's a nice little camera. Getting one with a non-working meter for a good price saves you the worry about paying double for one with meter that will eventually croak. It's great to have something as easily pocketable as the CL. Enjoy it in good health and take lots of shots in 2010. Nice shot with your Fed.

hi. Just a quick update.

My Leica CLs arrived today. Just a recap, I bought my CL with inoperative meter for $225 from KEH. And I bought another CL off ebay for $200.

The KEH looked okay, hada small dent but otherwise not bad looking and the shutter sounded alright, I immediately sent it to be CLA'd. The other CL from EBay had a working Meter BUT the shutter advance arm dug deep in the body and sometimes could not cock properly, ie. too several tries to get it cocked and position itself back. I was quoted another 130 USD to CLA and fix it.

So, there are several things to be learnt here:

a. Things are usually cheap for a reason. Especially if the ebay picture looks blury and the seller does not accept any returns and the high-precision mechanical camera is sold as-is.

b. Despite some complaints about KEH, it is usually more consistent than EBAY.

c. Lastly, I should question the rationale about buying 2 of everything, eg. 2 SL, 2 CL, 2 FSU LTMs.

cheers!
