So: A guy goes to Manhattan and decides he wants a Series 5.5 UV or Skylight filter to use as a clear lens cap for when he pocket-carries his CL with 40/f2. He wants to walk into an actual store, shout, gesticulate wildly, wave cash in a threatening manner, and walk out with a shiny new monocle for his Japanese-designed miracle of German engineering.

B&W would be nice... or Heliopan. But anyone's would do, really.

No effing mailorder. I wish to buy it in person and spend the rest of the day muttering about the experience.

So, where does I go?

Adorama is another choice - West 18th St b/w 5th and 6th Aves. (Oh - for you tourists- 6th Avenue is called "Avenue of the Americas" on your maps - they changed the name to A of A in 1948 - we "locals" still don't use it!)

Also, we have a good old fashioned transit strike going on right now - so bring some comfy waliking shoes!!!

Finding a 5.5 is about as easy as getting a seat on the subway these days.
Actually, maybe better, I found mine at B and H. They are also on EB from time to time.
Don't forget that it's a drop-in filter and you will need a 40C rubber lens shade to keep it in place.

Just remember that B&H and Adorama are closed Friday afternoons and Saturdays. It's a New York thing.

I second Adorama. Forget B&H. Also try Photo Habitat on Broadway around 21st. Street. I forget the exact address, but their phone number is 212-473-5665. Great shop. Former employees of Ken Hansen.
