So after buying an R-D1 from a very nice member here, today was my first real chance to get out and test the camera. For today I decided to use her in B&W mode (dunno why, was just the mood I was in).

I was out and about all day around Long Island and these are some of the shots I've had a chance to look through.

I have to say I'm really very happy with the R-D1. The ergonomics on the camera are really outstanding. It's interesting to work with 6mp files again when I'm used to 10, and I do wish the Epson had a bit more, but I'm not disappointed at all in the quality of the files.

All were shot with the Zeiss 35mm f/2 Biogon... I'm always open to feedback.

Okay, I know this one seems out of place, but I've been dying for a photo of a phonebooth and finally came across one today!

Okay, last but not least is this odd one with a strange story, and I'll tell it at the risk of soundling like a nut. Back in 2001 my father passed away. I'm not sure what I believe about the afterlife, but when someone close to you dies, I guess it's something you think about more. Well, over the years I've had odd little things happen that seem like either strange coincidences or... maybe something else (??). I even went to a John Edward (yes the psychic) show and got a reading a while back.

ANYWAY (get on with it you say)... so while out shooting I come across this fisherman. He's sitting with his back to me and he has an irish clover on his back. For some reason I think of my dad (who was Irish). He gets up and walks towards his car and I say hello and ask if he's caught anything - he laughs and says "not yet" and he walks towards his car. I take some photos and walk back the same way a few minutes later. He's getting into an OLD MG. My father used to drive one "back in the day". I say "nice car" and he laughs and says "yeah, would be better if I could find my keys" as he's rummaging through his trunk. I turn around and look up the road and walked towards us in a man walking a husky. My father used to have a husky.

So yeah, strange but so what? Anyway... at the next photo stop I'm shooting more boats and beach and then sitting in the car. A guy in the car parked ahead starts feeding the seagulls, which causes a seagull frenzy. My father used to LOVE seagulls. He loved the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. He also shots photos of them often.

I jump out of the car to shoot a few.

I only shot 3 seagulls photos. One of them is below. I was NOT shooting into the sun (the sun was behind me). It may simply be flare, but I had no hint of flare in the shot before or after, and none the rest of the day. It is just STRANGE. If the dead can say "hello" I think I got one today! LOL

And no, I swear, I'm not crazy. :D

Great shots and a great story. You're making me have second thoughts about selling mine.
