While waiting for the repair of the Bessa-T, I was fortunate enough to be offered a very nice looking FED-1 by (labtop)rob to play around with in the mean time. I just got back the first roll..

I must say that I'm pleasantly surprized by the quality of the collapsible 50/3.5 Elmar-clone. I hadn't expected a 50+ year old lens to do so well..

Not all pictures came out perfect because of underexposure, but that will teach me to remember the actual ISO of the film (I used a very cheap 100 ISO roll, while I've got my mind trained for 400 ISO).. Oh, and I have to be carefull not to point the lens at a bright light source while advancing, as there seems to be some light working its way between the curtains at one of the edges of the frame. I guess you could call this a charming characteristic ;)

Bottom loading wasn't as bad as advertised. I cut the film leader without template, but still the film went in and picked up smoothly. All in all, I'm having a lot of fun with a camera that's older than I am.. :)

These pictures aren't really works of art, but they give an idea of what the Elmar-clone is like..

Hi Peter,

Exactly the same feeling here, but with a Zorki. I'll be posting some pictures real soon. Congrats on your purchase. Using these old cameras feels good, doesn't it ?

Peter.

Yes Peter, you're absolutely right about that, but still it's weird. The camera is older than I am, it still works 52 years after the garantuee period expired. And when the shutter curtains finally give in, I know I can get it repaired cheaper than the replacement cost of a battery for my dSLR.. I'll stop here before I get too sentimental..
