First photos with a Fuji F30

I decided I wanted to have a digital point and shoot to carry around so that I may experiment liberally without the added time and cost of developing film. I have plenty of portable film cameras that could have been used in this way.. my XA perhaps being the best example, but i do find that too hard to use easily with my glasses.

Anyways after much thought I went for the superior noise and sensitivity of the new Fuji F30.. all seems good so far.. very responsive.. and good quality up to quite high ISOs.. i'd even go as far as saying for print ISO 800 is relatively noise free.

Have a look.. I'll be putting more shots up when I get round to using it properly.

I think you made a good choice in digicams. I have a Fuji F10 that takes outstanding images and, as I recall, your camera is a later development of that line. While I enjoy using my Leicas, a good digital is important for posting camera images (see my Avatar) and getting family snaps when carrying another camera is not appropriate.

I want to try and develop my ideas on composition without having to develop to see the results.. feedback is key in learning.. I've got an R-D1 so I could obviously (and I do do) use that to learn.. its just nice to carry around a very small camera and one that isn't too expensive.. I also find something quite nice about composing compositions through the viewfinder.. I'm forever struggling as a glasses wearer to use viewfinders, rangefinders more than my SLR.. I think i will soon have to dabble with contact lenses as its just too frustrating fighting with not being able to see the wider angles clearly. Even if you do succeed I hate it when you're left with your glasses smeared whereever they rested against the rubber.. or scratched if you're rubberless like i am on my r3a 🙂

You're right the fuji low light series goes F10, F11, and now F30.. its added ISO 3200 .. its a bit of a mess but not too bad if the scene exposes quite brightly.. you could do a decent 6x4 out of one of those images... quite brilliant really.. i wish my 350D supported it.. I know i can one stop underexpose and fix it up in the raw conversion but still, the compact is out performing the SLR in this case for a fraction of the cost.

I too bought an F30, on Friday, just as my holiday finished! I've had a quick play with it to familiarise myself but not had chance to get out and about to test it properly. I'll let you know how I get on.

Having access to a workable 3200 ISO is really impressive, and suggests the Fuji would make sense as a ultra low light camera. I'm wondering though whether the AF is sensitive enough in these situations, or are you relegated to zone focussing?
