First pics with QL17 GIII

Yes it looks like you have a good lens there. I used to think all these cameras were good but since I got mine I've learned that some are good and some are not so good. Either the QA at Canon was variable or some got abused.

cralx2000: Congratulations! I'm sure you will grow to love this one more and more as you use it. It's a great little camera and I'm glad the people here talked me in to getting one. You might try some night and low-light shots. I'm sure those will impress you.

Peter: This is the first I've heard of any major problems with this one. No general problems, anyway.

dmr - I do not think this is a big problem but I have seen a few comments scattered around. Here is a link to one over at PN (post is by Michael Schub in that thread in response to a couple of pictures I posted). I doubt that it was a QA issue to be honest, I worked for a Japanese company for three years and I know how absolutely seriously they take QA. I have the utmost respect for Japanese manufacturers.

IMHO, QA at japanese companies is something really serious. I bought several brand new japanese cameras and never noticed a problem or something bad. To be honest, it didn´t happen to me neither with East or West Germany made cameras, or those from FSU.

IMAO, it may have been that one was damaged or just out of alignment. Mine survived being disassembled by a rank beginner in camera repair and ended up being crystal clear! I'm sure if this was a common issue, the word would have been passed via here, and there are very few complaints about the QL17 GIII ever voiced.

I love the rendition I get with this camera. When I took it to Harpers Ferry, I came back with some incredible prints. The lens rendered tree leaves and textures beautifully smooth. I was amazed.

The prices are trending upward on eBay in part because of threads like this. I got mine because of a picture published here by member Todd Hanz. I have to say that my sample, although it looked wrecked and didn't work when I got it, has turned out to be really excellent. And I was thinking about buying a CV 40mm Nokton... No more! 🙂
