I posted some of my first Sigma 30 shots. Been raining since thurs., so not ideal shooting, but I can already see that the S30 is a decent lens... nice FL as well. Seems like a well spent $150.

Looks very nice.

Finally at home...
It's an amazing lens, very "modern" rendering, sharp as a razor.
And the EX 2.8/19 DN is as good.

Can I trouble you to post some pictures of human faces and "inside" lighting situations? Curious how the lens handles that.
Thank you
Thank you

Thanks wblynch!
Mikhail, sorry, I don't usually shoot photos of people.
I will be posting a large set of interior and daylight photos from the lens soon.
I have been shooting the lens a lot and really finding that I like it a lot!

Here is one from the Sigma 30mm 1:2.8 EX DN E, this time on a NEX-5 but I assume it is the same lens as in M43 mount:

I don't really like what lightroom/flickr does to my raw but the picture shows what the lens can do I think.

I've read that the Sigma lenses are a little better on the larger NEX sensor. Obviously, it was designed for the NEX and fitted to m43... still, it offers a unique FL on m43 for a super bargain price. I'm loving it!!!
Not nearly as good as my Oly 45 and probably not as good as the P20 or P/L 25, but for the price, it's a great deal! Certainly not a lens that will hold back your photography!
I guess if you need a wider aperture you need a wider aperture. The 20 is too short for indoor portraits IMO, the 25 is a stellar lens... i just can't afford it.

I am relatively new to photographic optics, but it just feels weird to me (intuitively) that a lens would perform less well on a small sensor. In my earlier experience with optics (Amateur astronomy), optical systems tend to perform best over small fields of view. I suppose it is possible that this is a result of the Sigmas not handling magnification that well? I have also heard that the Micro 4/3rd cameras had the best available lenses, so it could be an issue of comparing the lens against what else is available for the cameras.

Bill, in the case of the Sigma 30mm, the same lens is used on both the NEX and m43 cameras. On the smaller sensor of the m43 camera the final image is magnified more. The more you magnify an image the worse it looks. Also, there are sensor differences. I was only passing on hearsay though... and I'm happy with my new Sigma 30 on my m43 camera!
