First trip to New York for my Leica

In June I will come to New York for the first time - what are your recommendations? I am from germany, and my girl will accompany me, so I will not only look for cool places to use my Leica...

(And why are hotel rooms in New York more expensive than the flight to New York?)

It is New York, EVERYTHING is expensive.

But, it is a wonderfully amazing petri dish of the human condition.

Do some research, divide the city into sections and visit the things of interest in that section each day. There is so much to do don't worry about what you miss, just enjoy what you seel.

When are you going? It is not announced, but we are planning a RFF day in NYC on 6/28.

or maybe 10:30 a.m. and go for coffee and plan out the day?

I will probably come between June 5 and 14... a bit too early for the RFF meeting...

I love NY but too bad it's so damn expensive. I paid 1000 for a 5 day stay. AND that's cheap! If you could afford staying at a hotel, expect tiny little rooms. AND if you could afford, try staying at the Roosevelt Hotel or around it. If I remember correctly, it was on Madison and 45st. That's where I stayed and it was with in walking distance to almost every part of NY; Time Square, Empire State, Madison Square, B&H (stay away if you can or else it will be more money spent), etc. Although some might be about a 30+ mins walk, to capture and see everything in NY, it's best to walk. And it's a 10-15min bus ride to World Trade, Nasdaq, Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho...etc.

If you dare, check out cragslist.com and see if any one is renting out their place for the week. It is usally a lot cheaper than staying at a hotel. A LOT CHEAPER!

Cheapest way is to be sent there by your company ... the bad thing is that the sightseeing time is limited (I got just one day off, and I know since tuesday afternoon that I'll be at sunday in NY, could be worse 🙂)).
