I'm neither a pro nor even an "amateur" photog; just an average Joe trying to convert hundreds, if not thousands, of life-long memories captured on 35mm film.
I invested in an excellent used Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED, and embarked on digitizing my most cherished 30-year old negatives (the majority Kodak Gold 100 or 200, with one Fuji 400 thus far).
The first issue I noticed was some strips have liquid residue splotches/stains/residue throughout all the frames. Are there any cleaners or washing techniques I can apply to eliminate or reduce these?
The most common issue I've come across are color distortions similar to lens flare or moire pattern. Are there any digital processing (i.e. Photoshop) techniques that can be applied to reduce or remove these?
Finally, the next most common issue is that many frames exhibit browning along the full length of a lateral (short) edge and extending either a short distance with a tight gradient, or a wide gradient spanning a fourth or even a third of the frame. There are a few frames exhibiting browning streaks in the middle of the frame. Again, what digital processing techniques can be applied to correct for this color aberration?
FYI, these negatives in question were developed at various ports in the Middle East and many, many copies were made when they first were developed.
