Each year since I began using rangefinders, I've had a small pocketable kit to fit in a large pocket or under my coat when the weather turns British, and this year the 50mm Summarit-M will be my weapon of choice, which is slightly thicker than the folded up Elmarit it replaced.

Since Winter Is Coming I wanted to get a head start, and get the profile of the camera down as much as possible.
The regular ol' B+W filter attached protruded quite a bit, so off I went to try out the B+W XS-PRO, which arrived yesterday.

The filter was a great disappointment, I lost only 1mm at a cost of $40!

To fix this, I grabbed a 600 grit whetstone (for knife sharpening), went on for about 20 minutes and finished of on a 3000 grit stone. A bit of filing the edges was done as well, and I ended up about half way through Germany.

If you're going to do this yourself, be careful with the inner threads. They will dislodge as sharp blades, and might cut up your filter if you don't catch them.
And clean it of properly afterwards, you don't want any stone or brass dust falling from the filter on your lens. May give rise to the infamous "cleaning marks".

B+W XS-PRO UV: 2/5 would love to see this without front threads.
End result: 5/5 would buy again!
