OK, I am gushing about my flip flops, but it IS summer. 🙂

PS. This is the old "Something Completely Different" forum, right? Just wondering since it the thread showed up on the front page.

I grew up with flip flops. My 6-year old son feels just like you do. He refuses to wear them, LOL.

Flip flops and sandals in the summer, anything to be cooler. I actually wore sandals to work a couple Fridays ago... pushing the envelope.

I'm wearing reefs right now... they, too, have the 'marshmallow' quality you mentioned. A newer model includes a convenient bottle opener on the bottom, however they don't have the same plush ride as the originals. In lots of colors...look for three small accent stripes on the top and two on the sides for the right model. Gotten to the point where these are all I wear (on my feet)outside the office...

just a quick note on shoes and photography, if you plan to shoot at slow speeds, don't wear MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) shoes. They're the best shoes for your feet and legs, but they don't allow you to not rock while standing.

I usually wear a pair of Teva leather fisherman's sandals when I'm not at work... and occasionally at work when I think I can get away with it. Shoes are evil.

I rock the rainbow sandals a couple times a week...best pair of sandals you will find....you pay for it as well...around 55 bucks....last years though!

I've never like flip-flops but I certainly can understand why people do. The "between the toe" part is what I find irritating. I wear shoes. I have to work overtime during the summer to avoid stinky feet. Most of the time I'm successful.

Birkenstock's sandals with socks. You have to wear the socks or they get stinky. Besides, how else youy going to wear your Birks in the winter?

Nah, don't forget you can wash your Birks... they're nearly indestructable. Mine are 10 years old.

My favorite sandal is the Chako (http://www.chacousa.com). They have this cool strap system that can be as snug or as loose as you like with one buckle. I've worn them hiking with my 23 month old son on my back. Thus, they're very stable (for a sandal).

I wear sandals year-round (with socks), but not flip-flops. I like Clarks but only the ones with a quick-release clip and velcro just for adjustment. These are the only brand so far not to split the sole across the ball-of-foot area. I have some Merrill that are holding up pretty good so far too.

He hee! It's mid-winter here (and raining today) so the type of footware you are discussing is not seen here just at the moment.

And a warning note for anyone considering a visit down this way. "Flip-flops" is not the term we use - we call them "thongs". I understand that usage can cause confusion and mirth amongst some of our visitors!

So when your Aussie host invites you to the beach, and tells you to bring your thongs and your towel, just remember he's talking about footware, ok?

Wow, they have a big enough size for me! (~15) That's difficult to find for a flip-flop. My $15 Pumas only last about 1/2 a year. RFF induced sandal GAS.. who would have thought...

Also referred to in Florida as "slaps"... and I have a couple of flat-footed friends who can wear 'reefs' when nothing without an orthotic is available to them! The ladies love the varied color selection.

😡 Maybe we should start a comfortable footwear forum (CFF). I just broke my eight dollar Flojos😡 . Now I am wearing a dollar variety of flip flop. Summer is only half over too.
