I recently received the email below from someone called "Focalplane". I was wondering if anyone else received an email like this. Since the person((s) did not send a link to the post in question, I have no idea what they are talking about. I do not want to respond directly, as I do not want to confirm my personal email to whomever this is.

Thanks.

Hi keith,
I recently was reading a post of yours in the forum and under the post you show two web addresses. One happens to be my RF photo page. What does that mean? You have put me on your buddy list? Or it somehow related to the post? I"m just curious as I have only been posting on RF for less than a week and am trying to figure out al the ins and out of the site. Thanks for any response.

I've just done a search for posts by Focalplane, and found their profile. It seems this member joined on 07-21-2006 and has made 5 posts, and their most recent post (at 01.26 on 26/11/16), and is N0. 13 in this thread:

Dunno if it's that's the person who wrote to you of course, could just be a scammer who trawls forums for bits of info they could use.

Hmm, I think he's referring to your signature, to be more specific, the link to the rangefinder gallery.

Because it's a generic link to the gallery that instead of showing your album, it just shows the viewer's album, he may have just been freaked out by it thinking that you're linking to his gallery in particular.

Regards,
Ong

Keith, I haven't had this message from Focalplane but I think what he is referring to is that if one clicks on your lower link in your signature, one gets one's own gallery page (pyeh in my case) and not kbg32's gallery page, which I guess was your intention. This must have happened to Focalplane as well.
Best wishes,

I can confirm what the two previous posters have said.

I clicked on that link and got an empty gallery, as I've not disgraced and embarrassed this forum by posting any photos I've taken.

So it's almost certainly not a scammer using 'trawled' info to set up a scam.

Thank you all for your replies. Strange, when I click on the bottom link I get my gallery. I'll have to look into this. I've been a member here a long time and this is a first. I don't see him on my "buddy list".

His email came straight into my personal email, not my RFF.

I think that's what the posters above are trying to say. Anyone clicking on the link in your signature gets their own gallery, including you, as its the generic mygallery link.

His email came straight into my personal email, not my RFF.

That's because you have "Receive Email from Other Members" enabled in your User CP, so any user can go to your profile and select "Email: Send a message via email to kbg32" and send you an email.

Focalplane is recent poster in the Gallery. All gold. I've found some weirdnesses saving links of gallery urls.

Keith, change the code referencing your Gallery in your sig line to this:
...and in the below, replace all ( and ) with [ and ] four instances each...
(url="http://www.rangefinderforum.com/rffgallery/usersummary.php?uid=1012")(b)Keith’s Gallery(/b)(/url)

Edit (about 4 days later): I've "fixed" Keith's sig line link to his RFF gallery...
