Focus On Imaging UK

Hi,

Just thought I'd see if anyone else is going to the Focus On Imaging show at the NEC. For those not from the UK its the biggest photo show for the year.

Its on from Sunday til Wednesday, I cannot do Tue and Wed due to heavy working commitments.

I guess its going to be predominantly digital (again) but the likes of RFF sponsor Robert White and the recent Heliosview finder source Mr Cad should also be there. It's free for pofessional photographers (I think you need to register) or £6 UKP for everyone else.

Not sure as to how much use it would be to the general RFF bods.

I think this may be the first time that PMA and FOI have occurred together. I hope
there is enough equipment around to supply both shows.

'Focus' and PMA are usually timed to coincide which invariably means that 'focus' suffers from exactly what you have described,....lack of any new items. The last few years Canon particularly have had some DSLR's which because their production life was less than a year meant that they NEVER appeared on the Canon stand!

I used to go regularly to 'Focus' but not anymore as its not worth the hassle...... Two years ago I went with a list of 6 things I wanted to see and NONE of them were there!! I notice from this years site that some important names are missing,.....names like Canon and Leica........

The other pain of going to this show is the sheer misery of trying to get into the NEC......last time I went I had a brilliant journey up from London in only 1 hour 15 mins but then spent 2 hours queing with th other ten-thousand cars trying to get into the SEVEN different exhibitions!!!!........Well, never again!

The previous year I went specifically to see the new Epson scanner and printer only to be told by the 'sales' staff on the stand that ....."we don't know anything about it or how it works".......and......"I have'nt had a drink for 2 hours".....!!??!!

Last time I went was two years ago, back when 70 percent of the stuff was digital. I went to see the D70 😱 and the M7. It was the first time to get and try one. I would consider upgrading my D70 to a D200 (bigger brighter view finder) but so far have not seen one (reviews accepted) so might try one at the show if they have one. Leica was not there last year either but have nothing really new (75 Cron?, limited editions?) to check out.

From what I heard last year a lot more of it was digital, so I guess it' ll be complete pixels this time.

I have some freinds in that area so it gives me an excuse to catch up after the show.

Hhm, I have three choices, go Sunday by train, costs £4.00 and takes about 50 mins each way (trains permitting), secondly, go in the week and walk the 2 miles from work on the Birmingham Business Park, thirdly, pay £7.00 and park onsite for the afternoon and queue to leave site. :bang:

Spare a thought for those of us that work in the area, when the Spring Fair was on a few weeks back one day the M42/M6 interchange was closed due to a spillage (I think if memory serves me right) for 3 hours during evening rush hour which caused chaos in the area! Knowing what it's like and not really wanting to walk 2 miles to avoid carpark queus and the parking cost, I think I may opt to go Sunday. Haven't decided yet, need to check for engineering works on both lines! I unfortunately live the diagonally opposite side of the city to the NEC.

Having never been before and currently working around the corner thought it be good time to go!

I've got about a 160 mile round trip, but I can pop in to Coventry and see my Father who I blame entirely for my existence and hence my RF addiction 🙂
