I was in Looking Glass Photo today, on Telegraph Ave, and saw that they had a few Voigtlander bodies for sale. There was an R2a for $350, I think a Bessa L and, if I'm not mistaken a Bessa R with a 35/1.7 for $300.

They seem like good prices to me, but I'm all tapped out wrt money to spend on bodies.

I always seem to be out of money, when I go there too, 😉 and have even less when I leave.

I've never really spent any time in Berkeley. I think I'll take a trip over there tomorrow for a days worth of shooting & shopping. I don't need any new gear, but it never hurts to look...or does it 🙂

Thanks for the post. I'm going to try and find their address now. How is the store otherwise? Good selection of stuff?

Look Glass is not too hard to find. It is just a short distance from UCB, and a couple of blocks before Telegraph turns into a one way street.

They always seem to have a revolving selection of used gear, plus plenty of new stuff. I mainly go there to stock up on darkroom supplies that I do not feel like ordering from B&H. As far as I can tell, they seem to be one of the last traditional local photo stores that is a reasonable distance from my house. They even sell "Film Is Not Dead" Shirts.

AND they have pretty knowedgable staffers that do not pester me with questions about why I still buy film and chemicals 😀

Thanks for the "rf alert." I'll have to get over there at some point. I'm not in the market for any CV bodies, but Berkeley is a fun place to hang out and shoot. That's worth the trip. 🙂

I'll be taking Bart there in the morning and have reserved the entire day for shooting around the area. I've looked at the map and I should be able to find it pretty easily. If not, I've got plenty of time and film 🙂

Anything in particular I should check out while I'm roaming around?

Dave

Well, Telegraph Ave and Bancroft is sort of hippy-central. The campanile (the big clock tower) is cool, and you can take an elevator ride up to the bells and see everything.
Indian Rock over on the North end of Berkeley is a nice hang out area with a view of the bay and bridges. There is a capoeira cafe near the BART station and maybe you can see some people doing their stuff there. The lawrence hall of science has a nice view as well, but you gotta get up there.
And, oh yeah, lots of cute co-eds wandering around the Cal campus 🙂

The cheeseboard pizza collective is also an interesting bit of berkeley yuppy/granola culture.

You'll probably have some fun street shooting. I'd say you'd want to be near the campus, for example, University Ave, Shattuck, and Telegraph. BART will bring you up near the corner of University and Shattuck. Telegraph used to be a fairly colorful place, with some crazy characters, great record shops, and food, but honestly I haven't been on Telegraph in a while. It's several blocks west of Shattuck. I wish I was going too! Have fun! 🙂
