I having fun these days by buying old cameras (not too expensive) like Konica S2 and the like, and trying to put them in working order again. I'm learning quite a lot doing so.

What amazes me is how much of these cameras still have film in them ! Do you have that experience also ?

Out of 5 camera's I bought recently, three of them still had film in them, and I had two of them developed: one colourprint, too old to show anything, another colourprint that shows a recognizable face, probably of the owner (it looks like he was testing or inspecting the camera) and the one I received today: a Kodak Plus-X Pan that I'll develop this evening: as the camera (a Konica S2) was set at 80ASA, I guess it was exposed for that. I'll try stand-development in Rodinal 1+100.

Is it allowable to post pictures from this kind of films ? Maybe in W/NW ? Maybe somebody recognizes a person on the film ? Might be fun :p

Stefan.

Hi - this hasn't been my experience but it's not surprising. Eh - people shoot 1/2 a roll, lose interest, throw the camera in a drawer, and the decades pass. I've done this with a camera I had owned. Personally, I don't see any problem whatsoever with posting these frames. Might be interesting - but RFF isn't my forum, obvs. :)

There's a question- If you knowingly sell a camera that may very well have film in it and you don't even bother to check, or you don't care, are you forfeiting your copyright on the photos?

A few years ago I was given a hand-me-down Nikon P&S, which I eventually handed off to another RFFer, and yes, it had a God-only-knows-how-old roll in it. But ... as I was futzing around with it I opened the back in bright office lights. Oh well ...

Then when I was given a Kodak Easyshare {d-word} camera a few months ago it had a memory card with all kinds of photos on it which I did give to the original owner.

No you do not.

No you do not.

I am not a lawyer, but I wonder how much claim you have to a photo you have sold in its latent form?

Well, this would fall under RFF Rule #6) "You will not upload, attach or post any material you are not the creator and/or copyright holder of. It is however acceptable to post links to publicly accessible material."

But it is interesting to puzzle out the forgotten film. I bought (via eBay) a Canon ELPH Jr. APS film compact which had film in it, partly exposed. I finished up the roll, had it processed and scanned, and emailed the scanned images to the previous owner, who had forgotten the film and was grateful for the pics. It appeared he was a school teacher, as there were pics of the school cafeteria, hallways, staff gatherings, etc.

Not completely true..

If the photos show a recognizable person such as a relative of the photographer he/she can request you return them and you will be compelled by law to do so.

At least that's the law here in the USA..

More than likely though the photographer unless it does contain family photos could care less if he/she loses the images..

Yep, this has happened to me three times, though on one occaision it was a bunch of negatives that came `hidden' amongst some paper bought on an auction site.. they were all nudes, and not of the artistic type:eek:

The film was developed and sent to the sellers and the negs posted back, in many cases the film may not even belong to the seller, you know...grandads old camera etc.
Regarding copyright...you have a choice, do what is right or do it the `other way';)

Has loads of developed found film on his site. Including some very interesting shots taken by a GI in Italy at the end of WW2.

I've found some film over the past few years. Had some success with a roll of Kodak 400 color film that I got in my Zeiss Super Ikonta 530; There were some test photos on the roll of an elderly man sitting on a deckchair.

Another roll I found in an Agfa Clack, another Kodak colour film; it had somebody's holiday snaps of Italy on them. As well as a shot of a little girl (who is probably all grown up now).

When I got my second Kodak Medalist from Ebay, there was an exposed roll of film in it and I contacted the seller and returned it to the next-of-kin of the previous owner.

Lastly my Zorki I came with a reloadable cartridge, but this film probably wasn't exposed.

I opened up a developing tank I recently bought and it had a roll of film loaded into the spiral. I'll have to take a better look at it some time.
