If any of you guys happen to be in Melbourne, Australia, then it might be worth trundling out to a suburban camera shop called Croydon Camera House. Apart from having really friendly and knowledgable staff, up the front part of the store they had a couple of cabinets of used cameras, which included a Rolleicord TLR that used to be used for crime scene photography by the Victorian Police, a Robot RF, Minolta Hi-matic 7s (I think, it was up the back of one of the shelves), a Yashica Lynx with the f1.4 lens, a couple of other nice MF stuff - some older Mamiyas and Bronicas - and a very, very large wooden 8x10 field camera. Best of all, the guy who ran their second hand stuff was very enthusiastic, and actually played with all of this stuff "Just to make sure it works". Yeah, right! He obviously enjoyed mucking around doing straight 8x10 contact sheets. 🙂
I nearly had to wipe up the drool. The prices were quite nice, too - I dunno exactly what they're worth, but the Rolleicord was marked $299 and it was in good nick. Anyway, I had fun chatting to him, and it was a nice way to while away 10 or 15 minutes. Almost as much fun as stopping in here and saying hi. 😀
Cheers,
Steve
(I didn't buy any cameras, but I did get a yellow filter for my SLR, and an orange filter for my brother)
