From the flower and fire hydrent it looks like the camera focuses well. The trees look grainy - I think it may be from your scanning. I would say the camera works good; assuming the negatives show good exposure.
I would say - 'go take some photos!'

Yes, the tree photo quality is lacking something, but I thougt it was an interesting perspective.
Great camera. I didn't want to like it because it's so big, and no real shutter speed control, but it may be that I'm able to focus this better than a smaller XA or Canonet, but I've got to take many many more rolls to really determine this.
The digital pics are off the photocd, scans of negs were done by Longs...
Thanks

Thanks for sharing your pics. Looks like you have a lot of potential with the camera there.
I have a GS, bought off of ebay last year, and I agree that it is a bit big, but it feels good in use.
I also find the lack of knowing what shutter speed one is shooting at to be a bit disconcerting, as I am used to, and like to know exactly what speed I'm shooting at. Mine works great except that when the slow speed light comes on and you press the shutter, it is as if it is in "Bulb" mode, the shutter stays open as long as the button is depressed. All the high speeds work great. I really don't think that it is worth sending it into get repaired, as they are so inexpensive to buy.

I need to check mine at low speeds, I shot these yesterday outdoors on a bright day, with 400 film, so didn't get to open up as wide as I liked to, I kept getting the arrow to go to smaller f stop, so I was probably getting fast speeds outside.
Thanks

That fire hydrant shot is amazingly sharp - look at the details in the cobweb.
Very nice.

Trying to find my range
I'm the opposite.. I would feel like a fish out of water with a Canonet or something that shoots with shutter priority. Also, I like the ability to put the E35 on a tripod at night and know that you're goin get the shot. I just use aperture on the camera to freeze or blur motion if need be. You know it's close to 1/500th if you're close to the red arrow light and your're at 1/30th or longer at the orange arrow light.
Mostly though, I prefer to control aperture if I can.. It's just the way I like to take most photographs.

I picked up a GT at a yard sale for $10 this weekend. Very nice condition cosmetically and when I put a battery in it it seems to work fine. I noticed the same thing at the slow shutter speeds but if I hold down the shutter release buttom, the shutter will complete it's exposure and then close. With the slow speeds (of several seconds) the camera would have to be on a tripod and if you use a cable release and just hold until the exposure is done it should work ok. I love the black color of the GT and can't wait to shoot a test roll. These are great cameras for the money.when the slow speed light comes on and you press the shutter, it is as if it is in "Bulb" mode, the shutter stays open as long as the button is depressed. Great colour Ampguy.
I'm halfway through my first roll of 100 on a GSN. Maybe the 400 setting is a bit more sensitive but at 100 the GSN gives at least 2 stops between the exposure lights, did you shoot these under or over.
I agree about the mystery of the shutter speed it can really catch you out at times.

Thanks Jack
I ran this first roll with the setting dead on 400 with no adjustments (w/ 400 color neg film). Surprisingly the whole roll is exposed pretty well, even with some 1/3 bright sky scenes. It's possible the meter is semi center-weighted relative to say a Canonet.
I did play a little with setting Aperture up to the light and backing off one or two in some cases. Great photos from such a wierd camera with no shutter control, or exposure lock, but the lens are so sharp on this, I've since acqired a 2nd GSN!!

The lens makes it all worthwhile.
Slow speed problem might be due to an almost disintigrated Pad of Death although the meter will hold the shutter open for an amazing length of time in low light.
