I heard the FSU made some pretty good mechanical wristwatches for railroad and/or military issue.

Does anybody know if and where they are available today?

I refuse to buy another watch. They always break on or off my wrist. I have a real gem upstairs. Solid silver 1930's british wristwatch. Accurate to the second (wind up), until the second hand got knocked badly. It needs fixing. There are some really nice looking FSU watches on 'bay, but what I'm after is a jewish watch that tells time backwards.

I bought a Soviet watch in London a long time ago for about £10; it lasted about 10 days, or about a pound a day. At the same time I also bought a Soviet short-wave radio for £60...It lasted about six months or so but because of poorly soldered connections that couldn't be repaired, I just threw it away...Lenses are erratic, too...But I've been lucky...

If you want to buy a good watch, buy a Timex...as the guy said, "They take a licking and keep on ticking..." -- bob cole

I was forced to wear soviet watches for the 1st 16 years of my life. Waste of money in my opinion. Generally speaking it stands to reason that anything mechanical made in FSU is more likely than not to be of inferior quality. On the plus side, some FSU watches are quite pretty.

Buy an early Chinese watch instead, and it will last another 50 years. I have a DONG FENG (east wind)made in 1966, and it keeps less than 1 second/day after 40 years without a service.

The image is a Shanghai watch made since 1958.

I still have my Sekonda Chronometer which I bought new in about 1970, still works just fine, I still use it as a developer timer!! I was told by a watchmaker that it is a copy of an early Omega. Here's a quick picture I took just now!:)

I won't say what my Soviet emigre coworker called Russian wristwatches.
But in the 1980's he paid $50.00 on the black market for a Casio....

Probably the old story sell the good stuff abroad, sell the crap at home!! Sekonda had quite a good name in the UK

Some years ago (2001) I bought a Boctok (Vostok= East) Komandirskiye wristwatch from an FSU emigrate. It´s a typical military watch with dual hours numbering, has brass housing (unfortunately it wasn´t Stainless Steel), and it´s working perfectly till today.
It´s measuring error is within +/-20 sec. a day.
I´ve been told that some brands like Poljot, Boctok and Raketa are the best FSU wristwatches. The one I have is no exception.

I had a Boctok Komandirskiye from the 80s... sold it to a fellow that is still using it to this day, I can't get him to sell it back! It had the older stamp on the dial, indicating that it was made for military use in the USSR

Yes! Boctok seems like the one to go for.

This is one of my preferred FSU camera guys. Don't know anything about watches, though, so I have no idea if his prices are good or not?
Sibir Sergey's Watches.
I've bought a couple of lenses and light meters from him, and I got good stuff at good prices with fast shipping (about a week from Ukraine to UK)
