I just heard through the rumor mill that our local "real" photo shop is no longer stocking the Fuji 1600 (edit: the color stuff, Superia), telling people that it's been discontinued. (I have only heard this second hand.)

My response was that I think it's total bovine doodoo. Fujifilm's web site still lists it and doesn't give any end-of-life notice. B&H lists both single rolls (US$4.99) and 20-packs in stock.

Has anybody else heard this? (If not, please don't spread it, it's hearsay and I question its validity!) I said I would ask people who will know, and I am. :)

Lots of places seem to say "discontinued" when they really mean "we don't sell enough to stock it so we aren't ordering any more."

Thanks for the responses, gang. :) Conclusion: Caca!

I think the reason they don't sell enough of it, or any film, is that they refuse to be competitive on film prices! I even told them so last week. I bought a Manfrotto monopod (at another branch, same outfit) and I told the guy that I would give them more business if they would just be a bit more realistic with film prices. He said "those are the going prices" or some such drek. Why should I pay $4 for a roll of Fuji 200 when I can get the same thing at Target' (or {_gag_} Wally World) for less than $2?

Oh well, so it goes ...
