I have no interest in macro photography but interested in this lens for its portrait capabilities. I understand it's fast. I have the 1.2/56 but the AF is slow. Any feedback from real world users is welcome. Cheers, Peter

Peter, I don't own this lens for a couple of reasons--I don't shoot portraits and I'm not interested in macro photography. But I've read the LensTip.com and Opticallimits.com reviews due to general curiosity about Fuji lenses. Both tests indicated it is optically outstanding and LensTip indicated the AF is fast and accurate. But it's a big, heavy lens and the build quality is not up to Fuji's standards due to the use of plastic over metal.

Maybe a current user will give you first hand information soon.

Peter, I have no experiance with the 80mm, but the Fujinon XF 60mm f2.4 R Macro lens is outstanding in my opinion.

Agree with Mike on the 60mm - it does have auto focus hunting at times, but for me that shows up on the macro side of things, not in use as a telephoto.

Conversely, I owned the 60mm and hated it. The slow, back-and-forth AF--even in bright daylight--was beyond frustrating. Optically, it was great. In function, not great at all. I sold it as soon as I bought the 50mm f/2.

I have the 50/2 and 60/2.4. The 50/2 has very fast AF. If you're OK with the working distance and f/2 maximum aperture, it's a great choice for portraiture. The 60/2.4 is the opposite end for focusing speed. It gets there...eventually.

Thanks guys! Very useful. Not sure what I'll do. I was in a photo store today and held the 80mm macro in my hands...very large and heavy. Then I tried the 50-140 which is even larger and heavier. I'd be less interested in the 60 since it is, apparently suffering from slow AF as my 56. Instead, I'm thinking of the 16-55 as an alternative. I'll have a few weeks to think about it. Cheers, Peter
