Hi all, earlier in the year I bought myself a Fuji GF670. I loved the camera and found the metering to be very accurate. But in the end I sold it because of focussing issues - it always back-focussed. I took it to a repair shop and he checked the focus on a collimatior and said it was fine. The images lined up at infinity and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. In the end we put it down to user error.

I really miss the camera and would like another but wonder if it is a common issue (user error) with the focussing on these cameras? I can't find anything about it on the net. I had tried bringing the ghosted image in from both sides to see if it made any difference but it didn't.
 
Just because the images in the finder align doesnt mean the lens itself is focusing at the right distance. That can be adjusted separately and is a common issue with rangefinder cameras, not just the one you have.
 
I don't think, its common. I never heard of that problem, although it can obviously happen. But this should be fixable with RF-calibration.

From my own experience: I had two GF670s (same reason as you: loved it, sold it, missed it, bought another one...), and both worked and focussed perfectly. Still miss them, considering to buy it the third time, if I find a good one for a reasonable price.
 
I don't have a problem with mine. I'd like to buy the wide version. Money waiting if anyone has one for sale.

I contacted Fuji about it and they recommend the same repair shop I'd already been to, so if it was fixable surely it would have been suggested? Information online only relates to the rangefinder not lining up
 
I had no difficulty with mine. I would believe that, unless you buy the same one you already had, you shouldn't have any problem the 2nd time around. However, to ensure you have recourse, buy from a dealer who accepts returns, such as KEH, or BHphoto, etc.
 
In the UK they don't come up for sale often. If it was the fault of the camera and not me, I would bet the same one would come up for sale! I was kind of hoping someone on here would say it was common for people to not use the rangefinder properly, or it's a common problem with the camera and to try taking it to X shop for repair!! Even Fuji were not interested.
 
Hi, sorry to hear you left go such a fine camera.

When i bought mine i had the same problem.
After some tests i was able to fix it and is spot on, now it focuses perfectly.

i focused at minimum distance and shot in B. Once it was wide open at f3.5 i checked the actual image opening the film door. With a magnifying glass i checked rf patch and image sharpness.

Fast optics without aspherical surfaces have focus shift but the GF670
lens doesn´t have any of that.
Focus is stable from 3.5 on.

Once you get the rf and lens matched it won´t give you bad surprises.

Due to poor quality control (which i doubt) the lens might be in a different position and thus the rf indicates one thing and the lens another.

I think you must perform the mentioned test that way you will be sure about the problem.
*remember*to check RF alignment you must set lens and infinite and see if the rf patch matches perfctly, choose a distant object and compare.

Apart from that the focal length gives you a narrower dof so choosing the right focusing spot is crucial.

I'm always worried about focus problems with this camera, especially when I travel and "knock" it about on my trips, but no problems over the last 3 years. Now I have both versions, wide and regular, and both are spot on.
 
If I were to manage to get another GF670/Bessa III is there anywhere in the UK that would be able to check and adjust it if needed?
 
Yes, it´s very easy. In fact the cameras are designed to let anybody adjust the RF. There are no deadly traps or hiden codes to get through it :)
Rf´s get misaligned due to use and abuse.
