its really loud. heard its not actually the shutter since leaf ones should be quieter but some other part. anybody know if this can be adjusted so its quieter?

What's loud to one person may not be to another. It's impossible to know what you're talking about without actually hearing it. If I said there's a noise in my Jeep when I apply the breaks would you have any idea what I'm talking about.

The GS series all have very noisy shutters.
It is the only slight con, of an otherwise excellent
line of cameras.

It is my understanding it cannot be changed.

I think it is actually a secondary mechanism that makes
the noise, not the actual leaf shutter.

I had a GS645 Wide - a brilliant camera with a superb lens, but that shutter noise was a killer for me. From recollection, the noise comes from the grey plastic 'tab' in the side of the lens. I cannot imagine that a leaf shutter would make that awful CLACK when fired, so I think the culprit is the grey plastic tab. Difficult to ascertain just what purpose it serves on that particular model, but a competent repairer may be able to find a work-around.

The GS645 may be different, as I believe that has bellows.

yup i really like the camera but that damn Clack makes me feel like I'm shooting an SLR. ok i know a guy named Frank who has a good reputation with Fuji bodies so ill see what he recommends. thanks guys.

As I recall... If you set up for a self-timer delay exposure, the clack noise occurs immediately upon pressing the shutter release, while the actual (delayed) shutter operation is very quiet. That does argue for something else making the noise. (a GS645S, not the folder though that may be the same in this respect)

I’ve given up in this camera because of the shutter noise. How they managed to make a leaf shutter sound like a gun shot is beyond me. Terribly loud.

And does it shake?

And does it shake?

Hello,
I consider to buy a GS645 (the folding one) - the sound would not disturb me, but where there is sound, usually is shake as well?

What is the longest time one can use safely without tripod?

Thanks,
Thomas

No. A lot of the sound on the folder is the shutter linkage after the shot. As Frank Marshman says, it's like a Rube Goldberg machine. As to the other GS cameras, who knows. Plastic body panels probably don't deaden noise very well, either.

Am I the only one who enjoys the shutter on the GS645? Maybe it's just coming from cameras like the Bessa R line and the Fuji G690 line, but the shutter is very 'confident' and assuring, in all it's loudness. The 690 for me tends to make me wonder if the shutter actually fired, while the Bessa R sounds like I dropped a book flat on the ground. The GS645 settles in right in the middle and actually has beautiful shutter feel, so I like it. You could always just COUGH every time you take a photo :D:D:D
