Hi All -
I have the ii version of the GSW690 and struggle with both the VF and the RF. I've resorted to an external optical finder which is great for framing, but getting focus is very difficult. The double image is faint and often hard to make out.
I understand the RF on the newer iii model is different, but can't be certain exactly how. Is the viewfinder brighter? Is the rangefinder double image more distinct and easy to see and align? Thanks for any insight. - Jim

A quick search turns up quite a few hits . The consensus is that the iii is slightly brighter than the ii , but no one was raving about how much brighter ! Maybe your viewfinder hasn't aged well . Peter
I owned a GL690 and found focusing easy enough and I wear glasses .

Cameras. I has it.
I have a GW690III and have looked through the finder of a II. My impression was that both were nearly equal. In neither case would I call them dim or hard to focus, though I will say the edges of the rangefinder patch are indistinct to me.
Has your viewfinder been cleaned?

The II and III viewfinders are basically the same on both GW and GSW. It shouldn’t be hard to focus, so I’d agree that it must have aged.
The GSW has a sharp edged, sort of pill-shaped rangefinder patch, while the GW has a fuzzy, circular rangefinder patch.
