so...what do you think of the 55-200 as a everyday carry lens?

I have the 55-200 and the 50-230. The 55-200 is a great lens, but a bit on the heavy side for everyday carrying. The 50-230 is much lighter, and the results are impressive for a "cheap" lens. The plastic mount doesn't inspire the same confidence as a metal mount, but I don't use it often.

RE: XF 55-200mm
I suppose it depends on where you are carrying it.
It's become one of my favorite and most useful lenses ever.
Sharp and clean with nice calm oof thought the range.
The IS works really well and focus is fast and silent.
It's a killer value imo compared to there brands offerings.
This thing would have a a red ring and letter L if it was an EOS lens.

What Andy said. Great lens, easier to handle than you'd think, gives so much composition flexibility. Its OIS is worth 2.5 stops maybe 3.

It's a good lens, but not in the same class as a Canon L like the 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM. I use mine much less since getting the 100-400, but it's the one I pack for vacations due to the compact size. For the price it's a great deal.

Its a decent lens but I stay away from its extremities: wide open at either the long or short end. In fact, I back off the 200mm end to about 135mm.
