Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to doing my own development of B&W films at home. So far I've been using Ilford's LC29 developer with Ilford films (HP5+ and FP4+) and I've had results I'm very happy with.

Now, though, I've got a roll of Neopan 400 to do, and I'm not sure whether LC29 is an appropriate developer -- has anyone had any experience with this combination? Ilford have the numbers on their LC29 datasheet, but I'm wondering whether it'd be worth using ID11 (or something else?) instead... (since I can't get the Fuji developers in Australia).

Anyone got any stories to share? What's a good developer for Neopan 400, if LC29 isn't appropriate?

Thanks! :)

LC29 is a watered down version of Ilfoted HC or Kodak HC110.
It should be good with neopan 400. The times in the ilford data sheet should be good starting points, but notice their agitation cycle is only 1/minute.
Depending on how you shoot/shot it some compensation may be necessary, to do that use the more diluted version of working solution and agitate once/3 minutes.

DDX and Microphen are almost identical in results, DDX is a liquid concentrate.
Neopna 400 n DDX is a real thing of beauty, the first times I tried it it blew me away.

Thanks guys -- I'll have to go shopping, I reckon. :) Most of the Ilford products are easy to find around here, but the others are a little trickier...

Justin: Check out GeneW's gallery and his posts on his protocol for Neopan in HC-110. He's got it down to a science.

Neopan 400 in ID-11, stock or 1+1?

Neopan 400 in ID-11, stock or 1+1?

Thanks, Trius -- I'll go check out GeneW's stuff when I get a chance. :)

Update: I picked up some ID-11 the other day, since that seems to be easily available and is what my lab's using, too.

a further question: does anyone have any comments on using it undiluted vs. using it 1+1 with Neopan 400?
