finally had the opportunity to take a few quick shots today...the canon is a nice lens, with decent weight and build...balances nicely on the x-e1...no hood or uv filter on it, seemed low contrast and had some veiling flair...my hands/eyes did not do the lens justice as most of my shots were not very sharp...i don't think it's the lens though.

Looks good - at least at these sizes. Do you have any 100% crops that you would share, so that we can get some idea of the quality at full size?

Also, is this lens the EF 100mm f/2.8 or the older manual-focus FD version?

this is the fd lens...surprisingly easy to focus on the fuji...
not sure how to share a 100% crop...you might want to look at the original size on flickr...http://www.flickr.com/photos/back_alley/sets/72157633396086969/

as an aside...the rainbow adapter for minolta md>fuji arrived today...now just waiting on the lens!
remarkable quality adapter for dirt cheap...

U should check inf focus on these adapters if u ever intend to use zone or hyper focal. If inf is off then the distance scale on the lens will be as well..

On the omd I default set the Leica 90 or 135 to the hyper focal distance to get quick shots of birds that may fly thru my view in the sky above when I am on a trial in the woods.

i would guess that i focus on minimum distance or infinity less than 5% of my shooting.

for quick shooting i would use a wide angle (35 or less) at hyperfocal distances...now i have af!

Thanks... that's interesting - the old FD lenses have a good reputation, and are not too expensive, I believe.

That's great - thanks.

Minolta MD lenses also have a good reputation, and I remember the MD lens on my XD7 (back in about 1981 ) being very nice. Do you happen to know whether all the rainbow adapters are the same price, irrespective of type?

I forgot to mention, if inf is off, it may affect close focus as well..

At inf, the focusing lens elements should be at the closest point relative to focus plane.. When u focus for something close like 8 inches, the focusing elements on the other hand will be at its farthest point relative to focus plane.

The real life effect maybe that a lens which is supposed to focus at 8 inches, can only focus at 2 ft for example if inf focus was way off. If inf focus was pretty close, the affect on close focus may not be that bad.

Most of the cheaper third party adapters and some of medium price ones as well, due to leeway in acceptable manufacturing tolorences, in the past have targeted nominal case to be slightly ahead of real inf point, so that something slightly over tolerences will work.

Amazon's Fotodiox line for example has to lines, the normal cheap one and the pro line... Where I suspect they are using better tolerences or they are simply cherry picking off the manufacturing line the ones w/ the better tolerences.

So far the only adapter I have never had to play inf adjust is the novoflex. Even the more expensive Fuji m adapter is ever so slightly ahead of inf focus point. I have had to shim all the third party adapters I have ever bought except a fotodiox pro one.. The Fuji and fotodiox pro ended up close enough it was not worth the trouble to take it apart and shim.
