From PetaPixel article: David Hobby of Strobist has posted his impressions of the X100s compared to the X100.

He praises a stop better noise, very fast AF in low light, much improved MF with peaking, closer focus and improved control menus.

Includes image sample and links.

Thanks Lynn. Now that my used X100 is on the way to me (Monday delivery!!), I can start lusting for the X100s, and get one about the time the S2 is coming out.

Seriously, though, it does sound just about perfect. But if it's a little beyond the budget right now, its release is leading to great deals on the X100, which makes me like it all the more!

sounds like they fix all the things that really annoyed me in the first place (from limited 2 times trying the x100 out, which can't focus on something closer before u have to switch to macro mode). will hang on to my epson rd1s till the xp2 out.

yeah...i got nuthin!

i just wonder how many bought the silver 100 and then traded/sold it for the black when it came out...

Did it and don't want to do it again !

This is the only think that has disappointed me about Fuji - and I can't for the life of me understand why they would not release it at the same time.

They sold the black x100 in a limited edition (highly priced) kit and now they are dissing those buyers by not offering the new model in black (accessories like lens shades would match etc).

Sigh...

Lynn-

The digital manual is now available for download - Fuji states the minimum focus for the x100s is 2.6" - the same as the x100, but all the rest will be great !!!

PKR, it makes you wonder if Fuji knows what they have and if they realize that Pros might actually want to use its cameras. It seems no secret that camera companies seem more interested in what non pros want these days. However, the fact that they keep improving functions that seem geared to photographers makes you feel like they must know some pros use this camera as well (and the fact that they keep having their cameras tested by working photographers). Seems silly to me too this special paint job crap.

The silver is fine with me. Like most RFF members I do not photograph in combat zones.

After using the X100 since the first week they appeared in the US, my opinion is the general public, retail employees, security guards and other officials are more likely to ignore you because the X100 resembles an old compact zoom digital camera that's been sitting in somebody's closet for a decade. I believe they see you with the X100 and assume your pictures will be bad so why hassle you?

Unfortunately in my case they are right.

If all goes well, I'll be buying one this month. Can't wait to get my hands on it. The original X100 seemed like a wonderful camera marred by some strange design choices. Now that they fixed (most of) the faults and improved upon the design... it'll be truly worthy of the hype it seems.

Looking forward to it, quite a bit.
