Full frame 35 on 8X10....How?

I'd really like to print my most of my 35's closer to the 24/36 ratio, and still have the neat, clean white 1/8" border that my easel provides.

The closest I can figure is to cut the paper down to 6-5/8 X 10. Do others out there have this compulsion, and is that how you approach the problem?

I do it all the time but I use a filed out neg holder so I get sloppy black borders. I have some white borders above and below the image.

All my neg carriers have been filed down to show the full frame. I then simply print to the larest paper dimension the paper will allow. I make 10x5 prints of my 6x12 negs and 8x8 prints of my 6x6 negs - a little smaller since there is a white border. I don"t bother trimming the paper.

On 8x10 paper, I print 6x9 from 35mm negs. I filed the neg carrier to show full frame plus a margin on all sides for black border if I want it.

I use a filed carriers to get full frame, too, but I don't like the sloppy black border- I use the easel blades to mask most of it off. This leaves a thin black key line around my full frame image. I use my easel blades to give thin white borders around the edges of the paper; 35mm printed to 8x10 paper generally goes to about 9.5 by 6.75 inches, with thin black key line and a 1/4 inch white border.

Just print the biggest you can on the paper, and cut it down after. I'm not sure what else you'd do, if you aren't cropping 😕

If your easel has fixed edges, you can get one that has movable ones. I end up printing not so much to fit the format of the film as whatever shape best suits the image.
So if that answers the question...
Others have mentioned opening up the neg carrier to allow using the entire frame, of course a good idea. Why, I've often wondered, are neg carriers made with openings smaller than the image area on the film?

I have a Negatrans 35mm film holder for my Beseller 23C, and print full frame in the long dimension on 8x10 paper, leaving a narrower image in the short direction, which is simply cropped off. Cropping is unavoidable with formats that aren't exactly proportional to the common picture frame/matte sizes.

My solution is to now...

cut 'em down to 6 3/4 X 10 before printing. I figured that 6 5/8" is closer, but my trimmer already has a marker at 6 3/4. Close enough to the format to get minimal over coverage when projected on the easel, and still wind up with my nice, neat 1/8 inch white borders. I estimate losing around 1/16" on the edges. I'm a member of the f263 & 1/4 group, so that's plenty close enough to full frame for me. At least I'm not chopping inches off the ends of what I framed so carefully in camera anymore :bang: .

Seems to work well, and looks very nice matted to 11X14....almost the same mat border in both dimensions. Again, close enough!

I make the picture 6x9 on an 8x10 paper. I prefer the white borders, even if they aren't uniformly sized all around.
