Leica does not discard to send an M of complete format, but the lived one in Leica maintains the Truculenta incognito history during the last weeks. After the exit of its chief of a main directorate by declarations in which it gave by fact that Leica would present/display in Photokina a version of the M8 with a sensor full-frame, now the company/signature clarifies those plans. Without to have decided nothing on the matter, Leica says that it considers to bet by this type of detector. Writing. - Everything indicates that an interview published by the well-known magazine Photographer Amateur with the chief of a main directorate of Leica, Steven K. Lee, during last fair PMA was the detonating of its sudden exit of the company at the beginning of this same week. And it is that the declarations of Lee on the plans of the German company/signature to present/display this autumn in the Photokina fair a new M8 equipped with a sensor of complete format have caused that the proprietor of the company/signature, Andreas Kaufmann, now assumes the control of the mark. Of this last point echo becomes the own company/signature in a concise official notice of press. Beyond thanking for to Lee its dedication and wishing luck, Leica details the new organizational chart him of the company without entering to value the reasons that have caused these changes. More explicit it is the mentioned British magazine, that has taken to the cover of its last number which already has baptized like "a world-wide exclusive right". "Leica alludes to the complete format", says the number of March of Photographer Amateur, doing reference to the declarations of Lee. Reviewed strategy Less convinced of this possible step it seems the new director of Leica, in accordance with the last published official information. The Germanic company/signature is now reviewing the strategy of its system of sound-ranging cameras M, and although - indeed it recognizes that it is studying the option to give to the jump to a sensor of 24 xs 36 millimeters, still has not made no decision on the matter. Leica M8 ? Ivan Sanchez, QUESABESDE.COM Data that, together with "premature" the reflections of the previous person in charge (thus it labels Leica the declarations as Steven K. Lee), put in prohibition the plans for this next autumn. In fact, which yes assures Leica is that the M8 will continue being the ship standard of the mark during 2009. A data that, however, could be compatible with futureible a new sensor, since the company/signature did not discard to offer to the users this type of update in his recently announced program "an investment for all the life". In any case, to the information on these possible changes in saga M it is possible to add the uncertainty on the future of Leica R. Although for a long time rumors have been existing on a futureible totally digital model R, not yet are official data that guarantee this possibility.

What does all this mean?
Have six beers, read and re-read.

OR, track down the original Spanish on the website I mentioned and read the original.

It'll become pretty clear if you wade through the Babelfish.

It looks like you drank those six beers that you mention, before you started this thread.
the original posting in a "Lingua Incognitia".
why bother?
Was Mr. Lee a Klingon or something?

xayraa33, sorry you're unhappy.

I think it says there's no full frame pending for M-8 users, hints there never was...and suggests Lee talked too much without considering the impact on current M8 sales .

Personally, I doubt Leica's anywhere near able to make a full frame rangefinder, much less refurbish M8s, and Lee may not have understood how technically and financially ridiculous that idea was when he joined. As well, it'll be easier to sell the company without expensive executives.

We will live with the dream of a full frame digital rangefinder camera.
Life goes on.
Maybe some other firm will make this come true.
Oh well.

See Sigma DP1. Bright frame optical viewfinder, autofocus, allegedly rivals 5D and D300 except for it's one 28mm equivalent lens: A $1000 digital Hexar AF rather than $5000 digital M.

Browse rangefinderforum using Sigma to find the link that compares DP1 and 5D, side-by-side.

With an f/4.0 lens it hardly rivals my 5D with a 35/1.4 or better the 50/1.0.

What utter nonsense. That f/4.0 lens made the DP1 DOA for serious street shooters.

Yes, 5D surely must be superior to DP1 early claims, except for its price and size, and the fact that it's an SLR.

...and some folks obviously do like big, expensive SLRs....

Color detail resolution and noise seem to directly rival 5D, beat D300 and lesser Canons. We'll see what others say, once this thing is actually delivered. I won't know directly because I won't own a 5D or D300.

I don't think anybody's suggested DP1 will replace 5D, just that it's sensor seems to be as good ("rivals"). Sorry to confuse you :D:D:D:D:D

..in any case, 5D isn't going to remain Canon's full frame prosumer through 2008.

A better comparison would be to full frame 24mp Sony, especially since neither DP1 nor Sony A900 (full frame) seem to be in anybody's hands as yet :p

:) I think I know what may be wrong at Leica. :)

What we have here, is a failure to communicate!
