FYI - Steve Huff did a quickly compare rx1 vs xe1

I would hope so, given what you have to pay for that RX1.

Also, Steve Huff has never been very positive about any Fuji cameras.

A $2800 camera that when it's obsolete will be junked en bloc v. a $1600 camera where when it's obsolete you'll still have the $600 lens.

What this tells us is just how good a deal the X-E1 is.

Personally, still not interested in rx1. For what I take pictures of and how big is my max enlargement, the cameras I have are just fine. While I applaud Sony for what they have accomplished here, I am more interested in what Fuji will do to answer back...

Right now for me the xp1s or xp2 rumor for this year holds more interest to me as well as a gxr a16 module..but I do love to keep an eye out for other technology, that is just me.

Well Said.

Well said. Too strong an argument to ignore.

I think I would like a small powerful carry everywhere camera like the Sony. I would not worry about the future and just enjoy it. Your argument makes me pause and consider very strongly whether the difference in image quality and size are worth the 1200 difference in price.

Although the Sony beats the Fuji, the differences do not look so vast.

Maybe the camera is also a fashion statement?

would it not be better to compare the rx1 with the upcoming x100s?

more similar cameras, no?
i would be greatly interested in the 100s but i'm thinking the xe1 with the 27 pancake is going to fill that niche very nicely for me.
and i can carry the 14 along with it!

What was the point of this comparison? To see how much difference there is between apples and oranges?
Everything is different: price point, focal length, sensor size, type of camera(fixed vs interchangeable lens).

A comparison with other fixed lens 35fov (x100, x100s, leica x2) would have been a bit more useful IMO.

The point was to generate web traffic for SH.

the point was for threads to be created like this arguing the reason why it was even created.

I like both. there. haha. NO WINNERS HERE.

Even if one camera "beats" the other... you'll only know this by comparing side by side. In real photography (i.e. not test/review blog photography), both will work just fine and produce results that people will be happy with.

Yes, full-frame camera at 2x the price gives better images. That's not so surprising. I am happy to see well-done comparisons like this that actually show a difference.

My question is how much better the Fuji will look as the raw converters evolve for this sensor? We are now enjoying the fruits of years of refinement in the raw converters for Bayer sensors.

Another comparison by different person rx1 vs xe1

Steve Huff wasn't the only one that did this comparison. This is not an apples to apples comparison as others here have said, but on the other hand it is interesting to c what full frame vs APS-c gives u...

For myself as I have said many a time, I am very happy w/ the results I get with xp1 and even though a full frame does provide better iq, in reality, for the size of the prints that I make and the type of pictures I take, apsc is just fine...

Too much unnecessary bitterness here. Steve has his own style which one may find on the enthusiastic side, but never insulting - I do not see much wrong about that.

I can actually imagine that somebody considering dropping that large amount of cash on the RX1, but not being 100% sure it is the best idea could be interested in such a comparison.

X100s is not out yet AFAIK. But Steve will surely compare it to its peers, once it is.
