I plan to take my G1 on my fishing trips, I fish a lot in Scotland, Norway etc, last year the coldest I fished in was -22, I shot images then using a Pentax MX, I was wondering how the G1 copeds with extreme weather conditions, mianly minus temps, I tend to go nowhere really hot. Battery effeciency I feel may be a problem.

Hard to estimate - mine has not failed in -15°C, but it was pretty dry there, ice fishing might have a few extra problems like condensation.

Given the younger age and then common technologies (Li cells, permanently lubed gears and bearings) it actually should fare better in the cold than a MX with winder. But a camera with manual transport can often be gently forced where a electronic camera is stuck for good once the motor torque cannot overcome the stiffening grease in the corresponding gear train, and the G1 contains some four or five motors, so YMMV.

thanks sevo and your quite right the weather I experience tends to be wet, very cold, foggy and definately not cold dry

I took my G2 to Mongolia one February when it was minus 30 or so, dry cold, it worked fine, but my god it was a cold piece of metal.

I agree Neare battery depleation in the cold can iften ba an issue, I know nikon used to have a cold weather battery adapter but I can't remember what camera they grought that out for. My Pentax Lx never failed in the cold but I had a Pentax Espio mini which froze on me while Grayling fishing in the Scotich borders, mind you that day the rings on my Hardy fly rod kept freezing solid with ice even during casting,.

there is a cold battery adapter for the G2...At least so says the manual...Never seen it anywhere though....
