I also posted an ad in the classifieds here, but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for finding a 50mm or 65mm lens for the G690. They don't seem to come up on eBay very often (if at all), and I've never seen one on KEH either. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Would mind telling me how much you paid for it? I've read that the 50mm was sold basically everywhere else besides the U.S. (particularly in Japan, Australia, South America...)

Any chance you'd sell it? ;o)

If I can recall it right, the final price was 630 US$, after a little bargaining (including viewfinder, carrying case and box). I think the original asking price was 750 US$. At the store I heard that American tourists were particularly interested in these lenses, since they had never entered the American market.
And sorry, I'm afraid I cherish it too much to let it go. Maybe because it's so good and scarce it is seldom seen on eBay. I already have a 100mm f:3.5, a 180mm f:5.6 and the 50mm lens. If you know about where to find a 250mm lens for the camera, please let me know.
Good luck and best wishes,

Fernando

Just missed to buy the 50mm lens on ebay;-)

Just missed to buy the 50mm lens on ebay;-)

Some of you might want to watch the article 7525030929 on ebay. I was late to buy it only for 30 minutes;-) Congratulations to the buyer from Florida. I'd give you the pleasure to use the lens for 6 weeks and then buy it back at the same price plus all your shipment cost from Sweden to US and back to Europe;-). At least it is the prove that the lens is available;-) The last 50mm lens was sold on ebay last February. I can provide data on all offered GL690 lenses (including article number, price etc) during the past 12 months - preferably in exchange for excellent hints on innovative use of GL690 or leads to find a source / seller of the 50mm or 250mm lens;-) . I started my research after I had recongnized that I spent the highest amount to buy a plain G690+lens ever on ebay.;-)

Thanks Walter,
When I read your post, I'm glad I didn't idle for too long before buying the lens on eBay last week! Of course the price was way too high, but I had to get it. I have been waiting for this lens since 2001...
BTW, did you manage to get one of the two 65mm lenses recently auctionned on eBay?

Abbazz,
Good to know it was you ;) who bought the 50mm lens.
Just to reduce your 'after-buying dissonances' even further let me draw your attention to article 7519473785 (plain iGSW690) that rocketed to USD 2175 on June 3rd 2005. So your paying USD 1100 safed us from racing to irrational heights.
No I am rather stubborn and continue to go for the 50mm and 250mm instead of buying the 65mm. But I managed to buy my second G690 on ebay :) :) :) this week. I guess I had to buy it with Buy Now - given it was available for less than 400 Euro / USD 375 +shippment.

A lot of people around me are turning away from digital and are looking for film cameras with good picture quality. Resolution wise, medium format is on par with digital. But the larger imaging surface and the longer focal length of the lenses allows for better pictures with nice "bokeh".

I think those Fuji rangefinders are more attractive than ever now. That is the reason prices begin to skyrocket.

That's the same phenomenon than with watches: when the first digital watches beacame available, everybody wanted one. The old mechanical watches were dumped and they were available for ridiculously cheap prices. After a few years, some people realized that a good Swiss chronometer is highly more desirable than a digital watch, and prices began to go up. Many watchmakers that went bankrupt during the digital craze-years are now back into business.

Let's hope that Fuji will realize what a big mistake it was to stop the production of these great cameras! The launch of a new 6x9 Fujica would help to keep the price of used older models under control.

Now that I have this nice 50mm, I will be looking for a GL690 body to complement my G690 BL. I just hope I can find a decent one for a reasonable price.

One last thing: has anybody ever seen the 250mm lens, even in picture? Does anybody have ever used it? I would like to know is if it is really possible to focus with this lens...

So tonight there was the 3rd 50mm lens sold at ebay this year. It was up for about one hour and was sold for USD 1249 even without an original finder. Article number was 7537810568.
By the way - I have been offered a 50mm lens (with Mamya finder only) from someone in New York for around USD 1400. I will not buy but I am ready to guide you to the seller.
regards

Walter

And tonight - out of nothing - a G690 with 50mm (!!!) and 100mm and 180mm was sold for as low as US$ 999,--. Congratulations to the very lucky buyer from Germany. My records show that the buyer sold a G690 chrome version last September. For those who can't believe ebay article number is 7538778508.

G690 sold with 3 lenses

G690 sold with 3 lenses

Hi, Walter

I have a 50mm f:5.6 lens and the wide angle portrayed in the picture (on the camera body) doesn't look like one. By the front look, the frontal element's diameter and the viewfinder, I would say it is a 65mm f:8. There must have been a mistake, or the pictures were not of the actual items.

Regards,

Fernando

Fernando,
You are such a fine old fox. And you are right again.
First I thought you might want to reduce my dissonances for not being online for this wonderous sale. Then I sent your comment to the buyer from Germany - together with my remark that the seller has not sold any valuable camera on ebay so far. And the buyer from Germany also had assumed that it is 65mm lens but just wanted to make sure. He has been a big G690 disciple for years and still has 2 of them. So finally the deal is cancelled and the seller sold a G690 with 3 lenses (but no 50mm) some hours later for almost the same price.
It's so good to have you on this thread / forum.
Walter

Thank you for guiding me there.
I looked it up immediately but there was and is only a 65mm F5.6 lens + 65mm finder listed. But then a 50mm finder alone (without lens) was listed for US$ 260 (including shippment and taxes) and I am crazy enough to buy it.

Hi, that guy was me. I was pretty sure myself but can you know?

I am behind the 50 too, but no hurry. It is out there and will be mine some day.

I have 4 of the Fujis and carry them around a lot. Most used lens is 5.6/65 and AE 100. The 180 is good for landscaps but hard to focus near.

I bought the first in 2001 and follow ebay ever since. I guess the 250 is a myth. Given the focus problems with the 180 and the fact that there was not one on ebay. Even Hypergon X ( 140° lens made befor 1900) go on a regular basis.

If someone is interested in spare parts, I have an obsolete GM to be torn apart.

Cheers
Jan
