photos that I liked from the Gallery over the past week...

Robert Blu - marcelino 4. Fantastic shot!

enlo - departure. I liked the beautiful light, and great timing to catch the silhouette

Mlehrman - Crosby Street. Lots of places for the eye to wander around in this, and to wonder about the stories of each of the participants

Joao - Foundation 02. I liked the composition in shapes and tones

Focalplane - Ha. I thought the post processing created something special with this subject. Perhaps more art than photograph.

barnwulf (Jim) - Light Beam Underpass. Graphic impact, precise timing and great light.

another of Jim's shots - Julia & Ruby. What a sweet photo. Sometimes animals tug at the emotions.

watchful101 - I like the atmosphere and movement in this hand held night street shot.

Petronius. I interpreted this as a photo of terror, but maybe that's just anthropomorphism. An arresting shot, regardless.

Paulfish4570 - friday night. I liked the feel of this, and the excellent tonality.

print44 - beach. Lovely capture of patterns in the light - the figures are a bonus.

Alistair.0 - Mancurians. Excellent street shot and expressions, with tonality to match.

Got some time off work, so I though I'd make a concerted effort to post a few of my faves from the week. 🙂


Gho - I love strong low light and it's been used it very nicely here.

Monz - A very well composed Xpan frame

Cosmonaut - I like the balance of the composition and how the apparent stillness of the man contrasts with the jest of water.

Lynnb - This made me laugh. Such an unlikely combination. Such a lot of steps!

Waler Leporati - Simply brilliant. This is right up my street and definitely one of those images I really wish I'd taken myself.

Filmfan - I like the scale, detail and scope of this shot. The lighting's great and there's nothing dominating the image apart from the huge shadow that seems to pull it all together. If it was bigger I'd spend a long time looking at it.

Stuart John - The dog's expression is priceless and the picture is in itself a complete explanation of why anyone would want to capture a frozen moment.

john neal. abstract forms, natural beach, human scale in the distance.

bobfrance. grotesque, human, beautifully lit.

bobfrance. i'm a sucker for contra-jour superhighlight-ey pictures. and i love the ghostly figures on the right. this is really tremendous.

walter leporati. first of all, who the hell does a backfloat in washington square fountain? second of all, this is just delicious. luminous where it counts, well composed where it's darker. just gorgeous.

also from walter. strong lines. strong subject, with nice tension between the limestone facade, the book and the milk-carton-chair.

divewizard. joyous, transitory, colorful.

jack conrad. authentic activity, beautifully lit.

watchful101. great expressions in the background, grotesque and interesting in the foreground.

Thank you Lynn, Paul, and Luigi for the mentions. I feel it's necessary to say that my picture of Julia & Ruby is more appropriate for facebook than the gallery here on RFF. I am sorry if I have crossed any lines of taste here. Jim

My picks this week are:

luiman Two picks for Luigi this week. I like the graphic and spacial compostions of both pictures, the tonality and the figure in the first is just perfect.

Keith Just a wonderful and very creative idea for a self portrait.

paulfish4570 Two for Paul this week. The first shot Paul captured the Friday night football atmosphere perfectly.

Very nice light, texture and framing.

Joao Joao usually has such amazing architectural shots and this in just beautiful.
