Well, I've posted here once, and got very quick and helpfull answers, and I've lurked here for a while, so it's probably time to introduce myself.

I'm Steve, live in Melbourne, Australia. At the moment I don't own a rangefinder, but I'm waiting on an Olympus XA to arrive soon. So far I have a Pentax ME-Super SLR which has taught me the little I know about photography for the last 4 or 5 years.

I'm intrigued by the idea of more traditional rangefinders, so maybe I'll hunt around garage sales for one of the compact fixed lens options - or maybe even a russian rangefinder. But for the moment, the XA will fill my needs - it seemed a cheaper option than buying a 35mm lens for the Pentax, and it's also got some other advantages (small, quiet, etc.). I've been impressed with it's capabilities, especially Gene's efforts with one - I love his winter city shots.

Other interests include old cars (I drive a 1968 Datsun Sports Roadster), computer games (Hi Taffer, I'm Moonshadow over at TTLG!), good music, and good food and wine.

Why are all my hobbies so expensive?

The XA is a great camera and I'm sure you'll like it a lot - be sure to post some photos in the gallery when you get the first roll developed - oh and ofcourse a photo of some aussie coffee next to it :)
 
G'day Steve. I also reside in Melbourne so we might have bumped into each other without knowing it.

About a month ago I sold an Oly SP to Tim, a fellow member here in Sydney. I think he's got it for sale now after he acquired Leica M6 TTL two weeks ago. Also he had Rollei 35 with 40/3.5 (?) Tessar lens up for sale. I would have jumped on that one if I had not been broke.

BTW, I play a couple of (old) computer games too. Operation Flashpoint and MechWarrior 3.

And I now I *really* feel at home - I just reloaded MechCommander onto the system last night, it's been ages since I played it. And funnily enough, I did that only because I couldn't find my MW3 disc!:D

By the way, I really like your Melbourne presentation. Really captures the city's feel, IMHO.

Hi Steve, welcome !! :)

Just returned from a weekend trip and saw this, imagine my surprise when I saw the mention to TTLG :D (I was simply Jos there).

Reading about your interests, I'm sure you'll find lots of things to talk about here.

As you may think, I simply love the Thief game series, but I also love Ufo: enemy unknown (IMO the best strategy game ever made) and Transport Tycoon DLX, mainly with all those new modifications :)

Look forward to seeing some shots from your XA, watch out for those Soviet RF's... they bred worse than rabbits, its hard to stop at one :D

Have you got your XA yet? (I'm waiting for XA + 1 week before I put the Oly SP up for sale :) )

We might have to have a Aus RFF get together, I've been meaning to get down to Melbourne again for a while now......we could sample some of the good food and wine you're keen on, my better half and I share that love!
Oh, and I drive a 1966 MGB........

As for the XA, it'll get here eventually...

I bought one on ebay, but received an XA2. The seller is rectifying that, but he *does* seem to be taking his time over it...

Oh well, there's something about the joys of antici

actually, the electrics are one thing that has never (yet) let me down on that car. few other things have broken tho. but.....many years ago i had a triumph, and the electrics on that were frankly shocking (pun intended)

maybe that is what's given me the ingrained distrust of electronic devices, including cameras? (obligatory link into photography ;) )
