GE lightmeter scales

Can anyone tell me what the asa equivilant is for the numbered film speed scale on an old GE lightmeter? What number on the GE equals what asa number? Thanks in advance.

I have al old GE light meter, same as yours. I just match each shutter speed with the closest corresponding speed on my camera. So for example, 1/50 on the meter is 1/60 on the camera, 1/100 is 1/125, etc. Hope this helps. Jonathan.

The early light meters often listed the film speeds not in ASA numbers,but in Weston numbers.

I not at home right now,so i cant look them up for you.

At home,i may have that information in an ARCO civil service exam self study guide for Photographer-believe it or not,I used the guide years ago to take an exam for the position of mug shot photographer with the New York City Police Dept!

Although I took the test in the late 70s,it was full of arcane and useless knowledge

Thanks for the replies guys. I am asking for a friend that has one and I think it may have the Weston number scale and he needs to know the asa eqivilants. It is driving him nuts.

Here's the chart for the PR-1 and DW-58 meters.

.. or if you don't want to print the chart, multiply the GE value by .80 to get the ASA value.

Bob, you're welcome.
I probably should have said

ASA X 1.25 = GE film value

instead of

ASA = .8 X GE film value

because the GE film value is the variable.

That Weston Master II must be alot different from the GE, Mike. The GE film value for ASA 100 would be 125 not 80.

Thanks again guys. I passed on the info to my friend who is now happily using his meter shooting with C41 film. All I can say is this is the first GE meter I have seen in the flesh and I am really impressed with the apparent heft and built quality of it.
