General Stores are becoming more and more scarce. Once common in rural areas they have been squeezed out by chain stores, and a population with much greater mobility and higher expectations. There used to be dozens of them here in the Fraser Valley but few remain today. When we were kids there were several within bike riding distance and it was always a treat when Mom sent us to the store with an extra nickel to buy some penny candy. This is one of the few that remain in our area, still providing a variety of items to a small localized community...

I can't think of any in our area right now...
When I was younger back in the late 60's & early 70's my dad and uncle had a Variety Store that sold a lot of different items plus they had a little Post Office in the back...
Candy, Cigarettes, cold soda, sewing patterns, zippers, sewing thread, toys, model cars, household items...I'm trying to remember what all was in that store...
I do remember that he used to buy candy in large bulk and his car smelled like bubble gum for the longest time after he stocked up on it...
The neat part of having the Post Office was that the FBI sent their "Wanted" posters to him...not really posters but they would have a picture or two of the person along with their fingerprints and any details about this wanted person...they were really neat...I wish I had kept them...
Another plus would be if the store was ever robbed it would become a Federal crime because of the Post Office in there...
