Get a grip!

Made my own one. Oak, stained with mahogany lacquer.

I agree. But I like it too. It's a bit more worn in now, and it certainly does the job. Making one's own gives you the beneift of moulding it to you hand. However it was made as a stop gap until I get the new Camera Leather covering for the R_D1. I'll then decide what sort of grip I'll be getting, the Bridge Grips are high on the list, or maybe a modified Photo-Equip FM.

The initial idea for the grip came from another Japanese fellow manufacturing hardwood grips for Nikon FE/FM's (maybe Leica M's too, can't quite remember). Sells them on the evilbay. I must say his versions are head and shoulders above the ones in the link from OP. He's not any listed at present.
