:bang:
"you shouldn't clean the colored (usually yellow) glass or the color is likely to come off and then no more double-image in your rangefinder!"
Well. I did. Don't worry I already jumped through the window (i made sure it was closed before that).
Now the agony has passed and I'm wondering what can I do to get the "undo" button effect?
HELP?!
It's in Canonet S, otherwise superb after cleaning the blades.
Thanks a lot

Been there and done that so you are not alone. I was told that you can replace the beam splitter mirror and that they are available from http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_3043359. It is a do it yourself cut and fit proposition but I have not tried it.

Last year, for a Leica IIIc, I got a piece cut from the Edmunds product from Oleg K.: http://www.okvintagecamera.com/. The size (10 by 8 mm) may be wrong for a Canonet, though.

Why not try to cut a yellow gel filter and attach it to the front of the glass prism.

A piece of yellow gel would not give 50:50 transmission and reflectance. If a beam splitter is weak, a yellow or red filter placed in front of one of the R/F windows often helps.

Thanks a lot.
I'll try some of this as soon as I get my thumb in working order (smacked it pretty hard today).
I'll let you know what was succesfull.

Some people on another system (might have been Classic Camera Repair Forum, that's one I keep forgetting to check regularly) have reported good luck using that stick-on foil that's used to make windows semi-reflective. I haven't tried it myself, do I can't speak from experience on how well it works.
