Need to use a polarizer and the 40.5mm is not an option. I've read the lens size is 58mm but seen some post that its actually not 58mm (?) .

I think 58mm is thread of the hood. Basically you attach the hood to the lens and screw your filter on.
I have both but for God's sake I couldn't be 100% sure about the size.. Get back to you later if I could find it out.

It is 58mm. I use a 58mm Heliopan with numbers on the ring for the Bessa III/GF670.

It is 58mm, I screw in a Yellow directly, though the hood is a better idea as its quicker. The hood would cost more (double at least) than the filter though...

I carry a 58 light green. Camera can't be shut with a filter mounted, though.
