Gil Scott Heron + Robert Frank = goooood

Scott-Heron has released his first album in a long time, from which that clip was made.

The revolution will be televised, but most of us won't be watching.

Gil's first album in more than a decade came out yesterday. It's on my payday treats list!

eta: curse you and your fast fingers Bill! ;)

glad to see Gil is back. he's been through some very rough times. I remember all the way back to the original Last Poets. I prefer his version of The Revolution Will Not... from his time with them, to his solo recording. A little more raw and visceral.

Chris let us know how the album is (can I still use that word album in public? I must have 3000 vinyl records so I'm stuck in my ways. Do we call recordings albums these days when even CD's are seeming very passe?)

Kind of off topic, but you got me think music: I'm seeing Henry Threadgill with his group Zooid on Friday in NYC AND, assuming Henry doesn't object, I will be shooting the show. If this works out, I'll post some results later. I'm doing this gratis as a favor to writer I've met who is interviewing Henry. Let's see what happens. For now, I'm excited. The writer used a shot I took last month at a performance by The World Saxophone Quartet and M'Boom. I was flattered to be asked. I have immense respect for anyone who can earn a living do this. At this point I'm happy for a published pic and a credit. (well, I also don't mind getting comped the cover charge to hear really good music. also, it will be nice to not worry about being tossed out on the street for taking pix.)

Gil Scott-Heron is the man. One of the
best musicians of my generation. Glad
to know about the latest release. Thanks
for sharing.

Rob - yeah, I think the term album still applies. At least we don't say 'record' , eh?

And no, I won't be buying an LP or CD. In fact, just like digital photography, I won't have anything I can hold in my hand at all! (The bonus track edition is at iTunes for ten bucks.)

The new album is stunning, and harrowing. It may be the best thing he's ever done, among many great things.
