GL or GX???

i'm quite new to vintage cameras and i'm looking for a nice yashica to start with. i came across these two cameras, the GL and GX. these two caught my intenion and now i cant stop thinking which is the better one. i've read about the two from a few site. i know that the GL goes up to 1600 but the GX can only goes up to 800, the look are similar. what other differences those the two has? from what i read GL sounded better but somehow i still think that GX has more to it. can someone please give me a little bit more knowledge?😕

put in left column properties of GL, and in right - of GX and see what comes out 🙂
mainly GX has smaller body and ISO1600 as you have already mentioned. Both have 40mm lens and on-lens meter cell (to compensate automatically for filter factor).

If you like fact GL is more rare than GX, then.....you know 🙂

The GX has the smaller body. It comes in black or chorme. You will pay more the for the black body GX than the chrome body.

The GL only comes in chrome. But the camera is much rarer than the either the black or chrome GX.

The GX's top ISO is 800. The GL's top ISO is 1600.

The one thing I like about the GL over the GX is the battery the solution for the battery replacement. The GL only needs the a CR23 battery topped with 2 SR44 batteries. Once installed adjusted the ISO down one stop from the ISO you have and everything should be alright.

The GXs best solution, IMHO, is to buy the adapters. They can be expensive.

You cannot tell the difference in image quality in either camera. I think they have the same lens.

Anyway, that is my 2-cents.

Take both 😀 if they are working fine.

I use the GL for BW (simply because it can do 1600) and GX for color. This work well for me.

some people prefer black cameras over silver ones.
And yes, GX is smaller than GL.

I think GL is valued because of it's rarity, not some superficial features. Probably those using ISO1600 film at ISO1600 will go for GL, rest just shoot 1600 film at ISO800-1000 (in Electro GSN series, I mean) 🙂

You must make the ISO adjustment because the electrical charge is not as high or consistent using CR23 and SR44 batteries. If do not undervalue the ISO then you will underexpose the photos.

as I own only GL, I can't comment about GX. My GL have produced lot of sharp contrast & colorful picture (and I believe GX with the same lens will do the same for you), it is not the smallest RF, but fits enough in my small hand. if you ever handhold a Pentax LX, GL is about the same size, but higher little bit. in Pentax ways I think GX will be similar with Pentax MX. but holding something small is not always a pleasure for some people. if you can hold both, let your hand pick the best suits to you.

talking about rarity factor, you know you can sell GL later on with more price than GX

I like the GX, but missing the ISO 1600 for a nice Neopan shooting.

I've been using the GL for about a year now, and I really love it.
But I sometimes wish it had 52mm size filter thread like the GX. I've got various 52mm size filters for my Nikkor lenses and I wish I could use them with my GL: the GL's filter size is 55mm.
And GX's non separated pad on the focusing ring looks better to me.
