Going from Digital to ... ?

Got the December issue of Pop Photography today and found an interesting article in it about a photographer named David Burnett. It seems he had gone digital like many press photographers but felt there was something missing with everyone essentially using the same gear. His solution? A Speed Graphic 4x5 that he now uses on assignment.

There's more to the article and some good images from the Athens Olympics in the magazine. Even if you don't normally read it, I think alot of the folks here would enjoy the story.

Wasn't he the photographer that shot a b&w pic of Senator Kerry for the cover of Time and used the SpeedGraphic to cover the whole campaign? If it is, he does nice work. I may have to go find a copy of that mag to read on the plane tomorrow.

Just checked out his website... very nice! I'd forgotten he also uses a Holga.

Thank you for the web site link. His work from the 2004 campaigns is amazing. The concept of Holga and Speed Graphic images side by side like that - and both working incredably well - astonishes me and reminds me of how much I have to learn yet.

I've read about him before. Using different formats and cameras kind of gets you out of ruts. After following the recent TLR thread I've dusted off my cheap-ass 15 year old Chinese Pearl River TLR and am watching Minolta Autocords on eBay. A painter wouldn't think of using just one brush. Neither should a photographer.
