There is one on the Yashica Guy website and the info on it. I think that's a fair price for it. I would have thought in might bring more.
From the yashica guy site.
"This image © is of a Yashica GTN which was presented to the distributor who purchased the five millionth camera of the G series.
All told 15 of the Gold cameras were produced for presentation to dignitaries or to mark special events.
The bottom plate of the camera is enscribed :
Special Award Camera Commemorating 5 millions of Sales "

I wouldn't mind an all black one, the gold is just a little too much bling for me.

Hmm, this hadn't popped up in my email because I have a search for "GTN" and the seller didn't list it as such.
I dunno, the pictures look iffy. Leatherette in questionable shape (mildew?). Mechanicals, shutter, meter, viewfinder, and lens are all question marks (no reference to such in the description). I doubt very much that this is a "9.5+" in condition. Total crap shoot. Only value described is its rarity. Is the rare gold alone worth at least $300? To me, nope.

I have seen about five 'gold' Yashica 35 Electros in Australia - none of them being from the factory!
There was a company in the late 1980s that offered a gold plating service. They would gold plate your camera, or what could be gold palted on your camera. The plating was only a few microns thick and would wear off with regular use. The quality of the work was very good but pricey.
This may well be an original gold presentaion model but most of them would have been shelved, in box, and displayed only. I doubt if a presentation camera of this significance would have been considered a 'user'. To find one without it's box, case and presentation certificate, which would have had the name of whom it was presented to, is very strange.
Check out the mildew on the covering??

Good as gold

During the boom years, a number of Japanese camera makers
gave away special gold cameras, mostly to their top distributors.
Not uncommon in the collector's market, they turn up now and
then on eBay.
No reflection on the Yashica, but IMO if you gold plated a turd
someone on eBay will buy it...

I'll probably pass on the gold-plated turd, but a bling-bling camera is on my buy list. You only live once!

A cursory glance at Yashica Guys website convinced me that this one is NOT the factory commerative camera.

I actually disagree. The seller has posted a pic of the bottom, which looks identical to the one on Yashica Guys website :dunno:
