I adore this lens and generally like to keep lens hoods on my lenses, more for protection than flaring. The OEM hood for this lens is very much garbage though. At least my version is. The fit is not good and any movement against the hood results in it popping off. Is there a good alternative out there for this particular lens? Any input is greatly appreciated.

An excellent hood alternative for the Nikkor 5cm f/2 LTM lens is the German Voigtlander 40.5mm Screw version of their lens hood code 310/41.
This hood was available in screw or push fit versions. You can only use the SCREW version with the Nikkor. It is available quite frequently in Europe on Ebay.It was originally made for the Voigtlander Vitessa T camera and is 40.5mm screw fit.

The Nicca hood made for the Nikkor-H 5cm F2 lens works well on the LTM version of the lens.

Thank you. Do these options also work for the S Mount versions?
Heliopan makes a quality metal one: https://bhpho.to/2Gfit8Y, they also make a longer version: https://bhpho.to/2HRCxvh

S-mount version? No, the Nicca hood is rectangular so won't work on a lens that rotates.
Your best bet is to get a generic screw-in hood.

Walz also made a round hood. 40.5mm "For Sonnar". Sometimes found on e bay. The modern generic ones likely have the wrong pitch thread but can work if used carefully. Joe

Mine came with a metal hood and adapter made by Tower in the 50s specifically for the Nikkor 50mm f/2 H-C.
It's pretty ugly and made of a cheaper metal, but I kind of like it.

I have a nice hood for 40.5 filter size says Nikkorex 50mm f/2.5 inside. I've tried to sell this stupid hood a few times and no one wanted it. Now I finally have a lens it'll fit on--Mamiya Sekor 10.5cm f/3.5. That lens actually came with a hood that can hold a series VI filter. Hood made by Kodak and the adapter for the series VI filter is by Tiffen.

This is a nice option, not the deepest/most effective but it is vented and looks mostly period correct. I have one "For Sonnar" and one "For Canon" for their 40.0mm, same fit & finish.
