Does anyone here know of shops in London with good film assortments? I am going there soon, and I want to avoid the hassle with asking for hand inspection of film rolls, going through security check in the airport, at least one way. I guess I could do that by buying the film in London, but I don´t know any shops there that are well assorted with regards to film.

Also, if you know any decent labs where I could get developed while I am there, that information would be welcome too.

Hi there, Silverprint in Southwark might make you happy for film purchases... as for labs, any Snappy Snaps should do C41 in an hour. (£3.99 process only I think).

Hope this helps, if you need any more info just ask.

Depending on where you come from, films in London could be expensive by comparison. When you arrived at the airport, pick up any camera magazine, for example, Practical Photography, and you will easily find where to buy films once you have gone through the ads. The more common types of 135 should present no problem. But you may need a slightly more professional shop for 120 or sophisticated films. Good luck.

As has been mentioned Silverprint are very good and you can see just what they have from their website:

www.silverprint.co.uk

It might also be worth contacting 7dayshop to see if they are prepared to deliver to any hotel or residence where you are staying. They are based in the Channel Islands and their prices are very good (VAT free). Remember that they send by mail and it usually takes 7 days for the film to arrive - so you may wish to contact them prior to leaving to make sure any film ordered is awaiting your arrival. Their website is:

Have a good time

For processing - there are several specialist companys in the West end around Wardour Street and Poland Street. They are Pro Labs so not cheap but good results.

You could try Metro Imaging in Great Marlborough St - A short walk for Oxford Circus/Liberty's.

B&W Dev and contact sheet around £12

I wish! Metro W1 shut up shop over a year ago. They now have one, smaller, place in Clerkenwell (a few moment's walk from Red Dot Camera if you're looking to shop). Still the same exemplary quality, but not quite as conveniently located.

I will third Silverprint. I will be in London next week visiting my parents, and loading up on film. Much cheaper than where I live (western Canada) and much better selection. Luckily, the Can. dollar is doing well against the pound.

They are having a special on Ilford- buy 10, 30% off. In 120, Acros and Fomopan 100 is a good deal.

Thank you for all your answers. It sounds like I don´t have to worry. I will certainly visit Silverprint - if not for their prices on film, then just to see the shop. We don´t have anything like that here in Copenhagen.

Silverprint is the best choice but there are others you may want to pop into if in the area to see what they have, eg Jacobs have a good selection of refrigerated colour slide, colour print and black and white films in all sizes, as well as a cracking second-hand gear selection, at the back of their New Oxford Street store. If you're in the City then their Cannon St store stocks a small range of 135 and 120 film. www. jacobsdigital.co.uk > store locator.

(I have no connection to them)

Or you could go a bit out of the centre and visit mrCad in Croydon

I don't live in Copenhagen any more and haven't for many years but I seem to remember a shop that had a good selection of film, they also hire out camera's and lights.

7dayshop will not send to your hotel, but if you let me know in advance I can proxy an order for you and send it to your hotel seeing as how you are from Denmark I feel compelled to help you 😉

Oh and as for developing C41 goes, seeing as how you are afraid of radiation and all that (I'm not by the way) you can also go to supermarkets like Tesco and Asda, they usually do dev+cut for 99p but they are rather ham fisted.

Thank you for your answer.

You are probably thinking of Foto-C, Goecker or Photografica in Copenhagen. Getting quality film is no problem here in Copenhagen. Lots of places to get them. Alas, we don´t have any really specialized film stores like Silverprint, that´s why I´m looking forward to see that. It seems to me now that there are no problems in London either. I didn´t expect that, I just needed a few names to go by.
The hamfistedness is one of the things I dread when getting film developed at places I don´t know - that and stale chemicals 🙂

Thank you for your offer, but I believe now that I will be able to get what I need at the shops already pointed out. At least one of them is not out of the way for me when I´m there.
