I recently gave in and joined flickr, thinking I'd give it a chance to prove itself. If not, nothing lost. I'm not very familiar with it yet though, and thought some others may have some good groups to point me in the direction of. I started looking through a few street ones and even joined a few before realizing there are so many, and people just seems to empty their hard drives onto them.
So any good groups, or wanna be a contact (or whatever they call it)!? May as well have some fun with it.
cheers,
rich

Is there an RFF group already? If not, should we create one?

Oh, I'll go and find it.

After checking out your site, it seems that you like street photography. The HCSP (Hardcore Street Photography) group seems to get the best batch of street photogs from what I've seen on Flickr. It's worth a look.

You can search for groups and find whatever interests you.
There are several rangefinder groups, groups for film shooters, FSU camera users, folding camera users, specific lens users...all to satisfy the gear oriented.
You can also find groups based on all sorts of subjects you might shoot.
There are many groups that seem to be mostly social networking as well.

Yeah, a lot of it seems quite gear oriented so I'll have to try and fit in around that. Tagged my photos with all the right gear, so I've made a start there...
Thanks for the suggestions.

But HCSP is good too, a bit more elitist though.

HCSP is sickening and arrogant. The one problem with Flickr, imho, is that it isn't very construtively critical. Most comments consist of "Cool", "Nice catch." etc. Or, you will have groups like HCSP which don't even tell you why a photo is rejected so you get no constructive critique at all. But flickr is a nice place to look and on occasion you do see someone who has talent.

HCSP is the best group on Flickr. It has consistently good photos, it's easy to keep up to date with, and they moderate things pretty heavily. That said, yes, the group is full of dicks. You can't win 'em all.
I haven't found anything else on Flickr that comes close to the quality of HCSP. They actually have a thread there where they ask members to recommend other groups. That might be worth a look.
Most groups on Flickr are dumping grounds. You have 100s of new pictures a day, no one looks at anything, most of the photos are crap.

I like using the contacts function in flickr to find and keep up with other photogs doing interesting things. There are also several more flickr groups (at least) of RFF members in addition to the one mentioned above: M-mount (Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlander), Canon Rangefinder (RF) Lenses, and Rangefinder Cameras.
I also like Streets in the City, Decisive Moment, Street Life.
I completely agree w/ the comments above about HCSP.

I'll plug a group I started which I honestly think has some great content. It's Environmental Portraits. Not moderated, but there is a limit to one photo per day, so people can't dump a whole load of crap at one time.
