Apparently what Google really wanted was Nik Software's Snapseed photo editing service. I guess they felt they needed that after Facebook bought Instagram.

Is is possible that someone using a Nik program on their digital images next year will find info about what they photograph uploaded to Google so they can personalize ads for us? Sorry, I am just not a fan of Google's personal data gathering.

It does appear that Google and Facebook are making some low end photo editing entrepreneurs very wealthy.

I don't trust any of these internet monoliths personally.

As an aside facebook was hosting a less than subtle hate site aimed at aboriginals in Oz recently. People were openly posting racist remarks and jokes and it had reached twelve thousand regular 'fans' before they took it down ... and only then under pressure from another body. Initially they refused! 🙄 LINK

It will be interesting to see how this effects future versions of Nikon's Capture NX as it's really a Nik built piece of software.

Facebook recently took down a liberal political page in the USA, while refusing to remove a page where Christians joined to pray for President Obama's death.

That took me a few readings in order for my brain to register what was going on there. Wow. I would have thought promoting the idea of anybody's death would be, to say the least, in beyond-morbidly bad taste.

But to lots of people, The Market dictating is the final word.
